Top White House official selling Arlington home after activists write chalk messages on sidewalk

White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller is selling his Arlington home after it was repeatedly targeted by activists. ... The nearly 6,000-square-foot house, custom built with interiors that "embrace a refined Southern California aesthetic," is listed for $3.75 million. Located on a cul de sac adjacent to a park in a quiet northern Arlington neighborhood, it sold new in 2023 for $2.875 million, records show.

Miller, said to be "the architect of Trump's hardline immigration policy," is one of the administration's most controversial figures. On at least two occasions this year, including most recently in mid-September, activists have written messages of protest in front of his house and in the nearby park.

"Stephen Miller is destroying democracy," "stop the kidnapping," we [love] immigrants," "hate has no home in Arlington," "no white nationalism," and "trans rights are human rights" are among the chalk messages seen last month before being washed away.

{snip}

Several media outlets including the Daily Mail (UK) reported on the chalk protest and the Millers' reaction to it. During an appearance on The Sean Hannity Show, Stephen Miller and Hannity asserted that the messages amounted to "terroristic threats." ... The family was subsequently seen moving out a couple of weeks ago, neighbors said, and the home was listed for sale on Oct. 7. An elaborate set of Halloween decorations were also removed. It is unclear where the family moved to.

Not afraid of anything except people brandishing chalk, farm workers, nannies, kitchen staff, roofers, trans kids, women with blue hair, black people, brown people, mixed race people, people who speak Spanish, people who speak French, ... basically anyone who doesn't look and act just like them. Other than that these tinpot macho men aren't afraid of anything.

... and it became popular because Newt Gingrich recommended to all Republican congressmen. The problem is, acting like a chimpanzee in human society might not get the reaction you expect.

I don't consider this "doxing." No personal, private information was being publicly revealed with malicious intent to harass or intimidate individuals.

I think this article about what ANUFH has been doing, and the response to it, says SO MUCH about what we are up against.

And it also points to a way forward. We MUST find ways to more effectively expose, not just the cruelty, but the absurdity of what the 47 and the minions in his regime are saying and doing.

There are acts that demand to be denounced. There are acts that call for anger. But there are also acts and words that that are so ridiculous that, instead of getting mad, we need to point and laugh. A LOT.

Organizers wrote that they spoke with security at the Millers’ residence, who “explicitly told us that we were legally allowed to chalk on the sidewalks, which we did.”

(As of Thursday, the chalk messages were largely removed, though some messages were faintly visible on the sidewalk. Protesters had previously targeted the sidewalks around the home at least once before this past weekend.)

“We understand that Katie, whose home was safely protected by dozens of heavily armed security and police, was terrified of our sidewalk chalk and messages — terrifying messages such ‘immigrants are people’ or ‘protect the constitution,'” ANUFH wrote. “We believe in those statements deeply, in our peaceful activism, and the belief that every single human being here in Arlington deserves to be treated with the same dignity and respect that Katie and Stephen expect from us.”

Klimkowsky added that she is takes no joy in Kirk’s death and is disheartened by the current administration “making enemies of people who are just, you know, citizens, patriots, people who are unhappy with what’s happening in the country today.”

“I was very particularly trying to say, what we need more of is civility back,” she said. “We need to listen to one another — love more, harm less.”

I’ve been through that neighborhood, but only while yardsaling or just passing through. The house was built in 2023, long after my last trip through that neighborhood.

I had guessed that he lived elsewhere in Arlington, so this comes as a revelation to me too.

And good evening.

The Yiddish phrase "Ah cholerazolztz du haben" translates to "Oh, what are you doing?" or "Oh, what do you want?". It is a common expression used to ask someone what they are up to or what they need.

Republican Sen. Susan Collins called the police on Saturday after a chalk message — which asked her to support legislation aimed at protecting abortion access — was found on a sidewalk outside her home in Bangor, Maine.

What did those TERRORISTS write???

"Susie, please, Mainers want [the Women's Health Protection Act]. Vote yes, clean up your mess."
