A man with "mental challenges" was arrested after plotting to shoot up Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Monday morning, according to authorities.
The man, 49-year-old Billy Cagle of Cartersville, showed up to the airport just after 9 a.m. after Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said he livestreamed on social media that he had plans to go to the Atlanta airport to "shoot it up."
Cagle's family said they heard about the threats and immediately notified Cartersville Police, who said has had past run-ins with Cagle, a previously convicted felon.
Cartersville Police immediately told Atlanta Police, who notified airport security and they immediately began searching for Cagle. His family told police he was driving a Chevrolet flatbed pickup truck, which authorities found parked right outside the airport at the S1 doors at the South Terminal.

Sounds like maybe he doesn't like police or authority.

(9,372 posts)but this is the first time we know of hat a mass shooting was planned at a a place where I have actually been. Back in the day, when I was on active duty and stationed on the East Coast - in North Carolina - and my family was all in California - if I wanted to fly either way there would be a change of planes between the big cross country one and the small local one in Atlanta. I changed planes there going to and then back from my favorite aunt's funeral. That would have been most likely in 1972. I expect it's changed a lot in more than 50 years though.

(18,154 posts)The supermarket in south Boulder where I shopped for about 30 years was the scene of a mass shooting.
Knowing the location, and maybe some of the people there really brings it home.
