Trump on Netflix, Paramount war: 'None of them are particularly good friends of mine'

President Trump on Monday demurred when asked about an ongoing war between Netflix and Paramount for moviemaker Warner Bros. and said he has not spoken with his son-in-law Jared Kushner about his reported role in helping Paramount win the company’s board over.

“I don’t know enough about it,” Trump told reporters at The White House. “I know the companies very well and I know what they’re doing, and I have to see what percentage of market they have. I mean, none of them are particularly great friends of mine.” The president said he is looking forward to doing “what’s right,” for the country when it comes to his administration’s regulation of any sale of Warner Bros.

Trump was asked if the reported involvement of a firm led by Kushner, the husband of his daughter Ivanka and a close personal ally, in helping Paramount fight Netflix’s bid for Warner Bros. would sway him in the David Ellison-led company’s direction. “I don’t know, I’ve never spoken with him about it,” he said. “I know he tried to work on Gaza. Gaza is his primary thing.”

The president’s comments came hours after Paramount launched a hostile takeover of Warner Bros.’ studios, undercutting a $70 billion deal the company cut with Netflix last week that would hand the streamer control of its sprawling entertainment empire.
