NEW YORK (WABC) -- Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman has officially entered the race for New York governor, releasing a campaign ad that highlights his public service record. "We need a strong executive. Like President Trump, Bruce Blakeman is a leader who can make the tough choices to get things down and defeat Hochul," the ad says.
Blakeman will face Rep. Elise Stefanik in a primary that state Republican Party leaders have said they do not want. They are both aiming to unseat Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul next November. "It makes it much more entertaining for me," Hochul initially reacted when asked about a Republican primary standoff.
A Hochul campaign spokesperson called the Nassau County Executive "Bootlicker Bruce Blakeman" and said he "raised costs on New Yorkers and cheered on Trump's tariffs like the MAGA fanboy he is -- flying all the way to D.C. to applaud higher prices. He gushed that Trump is doing an 'amazing job' by gutting Medicaid and jacking up costs. We're not about to let him turn the governor's mansion into Mar-a-Lago North."
Both Blakeman and Stefanik will be vying for the support of President Donald Trump. Asked which he would support in a gubernatorial primary, Trump called Blakeman and Stefanik "great people."

Well that just killed Stefanik's chances to get through a primary.

(7,011 posts)This also puts it on Trump to endorse one of these clowns. Will he finally tell Stefanik how he really feels about her?
For a brief history, Stefanik, an otherwise normal Republican, went all MAGA in order to please Dear Leader and advance her position in the House and beyond. She became a chief election denier and bulldog, and was seemingly rewarded with a prize she really wanted: UN Ambassador. Stefanik is actually rich and smart: she went to the tony Albany Academy for Girls (one of the most expensive schools in the country) and then to Harvard. She wanted to live on the Upper East Side and do UN Ambassador things, not truck around the North Country opening car dealerships in Plattsburgh. So Trump dangled UN Ambassador for her, then yanked it, handing it instead to the most incompetent moron he could find, Signal Chat dimwit Mike Walz. So it was back to the House and the district for Stefanik, but she was also dangled another carrot: governor of New York, with donors and Trump support.
And now? If Trump yanks that too, I really want to see Stefanik's response. She has turned herself into a fool for him, done everything he asked of her, she's been humiliated publicly, and -- as a competent and intelligent woman - she's been replaced by a certified idiot for the promotion that she wanted. And now? Will Trump back downstate MAGA weirdo Bruce Blakeman, of Arizona State University?
She has to be absolutely losing her mind.
And I love that for her.

(164,526 posts)that she is "young" (in her early 40s) and Blakeman is 70. So she can keep at it for another 20 or 30 years.

(5 posts)These two are awful choices for our state. Stefanik wanted the UN job but Trump pulled the rug out from her. She and the GOP are completely out of touch with the political mood of NYS as evidenced by the gains the Democrats made across Upstate NY last month. I understand that fifty county legislator/supervisor seats turned Democratic white the GOP only took one Democratic seat. The Dems even got back on the county boards in very red Genesee and Tioga counties..
Blakeman was reelected in Nassau county because of their very strong old fashioned GOP machine. He would probably carry both Nassau and neighboring Suffolk counties in a GOP primary (also Staten Island and some Hasidic areas) leaving only the small Upstate counties voting for Stefanik. The general election will probably result in a Hochul/Democratic landslide. This will also result in the Dems taking even more Town and County seats especially if local elections will take place in even years. Let me games begin.
