Michigan Democrat moves to impeach RFK Jr, alleging 'abuse of authority'

Source: The Guardian

A Democratic lawmaker from Michigan has introduced articles of impeachment against Robert F Kennedy, the US health secretary, accusing him of “abuse of authority and undermining of the public health”.

Representative Haley Stevens, who is currently running for Senate, formally introduced the articles on impeachment on Wednesday, several months after she announced that she vowed to file the articles.

“Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has turned his back on science, on public health, and on the American people – spreading conspiracies and lies, driving up costs, and putting lives at risk,” Stevens said in a news release on Wednesday announcing the move.

“Under his watch, families are less safe and less healthy, people are paying more for care, lifesaving research has been gutted, and vaccines have been restricted. He has driven up health care costs while tearing down the scientific institutions that keep Michiganders and families across America safe. His actions are reckless, his leadership is harmful, and his tenure has become a direct threat to our nation’s health and security. Congress cannot and will not stand by while one man dismantles decades of medical progress.”

1. Waste of time and resources and it could potentially be used the Republicans which we really should avoid doing.

No, it's better to focus on the more important things like securing the State level elections and then the Federal Senate and House because that's what the Republicans have done for decades. Why? Because a lot State setup the Federal voting district's and SCOTUS has said they have free reign gerrymander them. That can help us secure us the House and if you have the House you have a lot more leverage.

and getting rid of a crackpot who is working to insure many children will have shorter, more miserable lives due to not getting vaccinations is pretty damned important.

8. We can but the question is should we? In my opinion I think it's a waste as there's no way we can get 60 votes.

All it would do would be to give the Republicans political hay to use on their radio and PR systems like Fox News to rally their moronic voters to the polls.

3. Surgeon General

Some of GOP senators do not like some of the moves by RFK Jr.

They have an opportunity to prove it, which they will not, by voting against Trump's pick for Surgeon General, Casey Means.

She and her brother are allies of RFK Jr.

They are part of the MAHA movement.

Also, Casey Means is not a currently practicing physician.

Misfeasance is not a "high crime or misdemeanor."

This will never pass the House.

10. Anyone that cares is fully aware of his medieval mentality - not to mention his just basic stupidity.

I appreciate that "high crimes and misdemeanors" means whatever a majority of the House decide it does. Nevertheless, disagreement with the policies of a department secretary does not meet any historical definition of the term. The Constitution provides that

. . . no Person shall be convicted without the concurrence of two thirds of the Members (Senators) present.
That certainly suggests that a crime is required to impeach.

I doubt that all Democratic representatives would vote to impeach. There is no possibility that a super majority of the Senate would vote to convict.

A meaningless attempt at impeachment would make the Democrats appear small.

He is one of the best recruiting tools the Democrats have. Yes, some will get sick or die but it will probably be more red than blue who purchase the hacienda. No one with any damn sense listens to him anyway.
