Trump says 'starting' land strikes over drugs in latest warning

Source: msn/Bloomberg

11h

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump said the US would be “starting” land strikes on drug operations in Latin America, though again declined to provide details on when and where the escalation of his military campaign would actually begin, or if countries could still do anything to avert the threatened action.

“We knocked out 96% of the drugs coming in by water, and now we’re starting by land, and by land is a lot easier, and that’s going to start happening,” Trump told reporters Friday in the Oval Office.

The US president for days has been pledging to broaden the effort, which comes after the Pentagon has launched a series of attacks on what it has called drug-smuggling boats in international waters off the coast of South America.

While Trump’s posturing has largely been seen as a pressure campaign against Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, he on Friday insisted the land targeting may not only impact Venezuela. “It doesn’t necessarily have to be in Venezuela,” he said, adding that “people that are bringing in drugs to our country are targets.”

because the U.S. is ALREADY the biggest oil producer in the world and if they dump more oil onto the market, it might be "good for the consumer" (assuming someone builds more refineries for gasoline which is the kicker), but it will kill the very industry (especially the frackers) that he is humping (at least symbolically, because he latched onto that idiotic Caribou Barbie "Drill Baby Drill" nonsense from almost 20 years ago and in the past 5 or so years, despite having more leases opened up for them, the industry has been lukewarm to them)

Below a certain price/bbl, it hits the driller's "breakevens" for drilling new wells -

All oil is subject to the economically recoverable vs technically recoverable argument. Regular drilling likely has the lowest threshold. The threshold for off-shore is likely high because of having to build platforms and FPSOs. Fracking is expensive because of the cost of drilling and, imo, because individual wells don’t produce a lot so you have to drill a lot of wells.

They briefly dipped below $3/gal in September with the switch to winter grade but then have been back up again all over. I have only seen one station near me that was $2.99/gal. The others within a 10 mile radius of me are running ~$3.08 - $3.15/gal. I know it's a refinery issue though.

And there is already a glut once OPEC & OPEC+ decided to start upping their production again (with some of the countries concerned about the glut). WTI spot is running around $58/bbl this past week, which is down from the $60 - $70 during this past year.

I think having control of the Orinoco Belt Reserve is more the point than its immediate production.

Similar to the Arctic region, it’s who stakes the claim on the resource first.

You’re right that production capacity in Venezuela is piss poor and it’s oil of little consequence on the international market.

For now.

It will take billions of dollars in upgrades and time to put that all in place to get any payoff on those oil fields.

Plus, Venezuela has Coltan. A highly valued rare earth mineral used in weaponry and high tech manufacturing.

If we let him do any of this... I mean even to keep on talking about it... There should be 212 Articles introduced the next day.

And, the next day... and the next day, if that is what it takes.

We should also make sure to publicly single out every member that does not vote for impeachment... regardless of party.

One doesn't fight drugs by pardoning one of the biggest drug smuggling bosses in the world

One doesn't fight drugs by sending federal enforcement near the border to D.C. to pick up trash

One doesn't fight drugs by making policies that make living un-affordable for people

One doesn't fight drugs by making it harder, or impossible for people to get education needed to lift themselves out of poverty or wage slavery and let them advance to professional positions where they can make decent livings

One doesn't fight drugs by using cruelty and limitations to keep people held down and without hope

One doesn't fight drugs by making it less likely people can get needed healthcare

One doesn't fight drugs by taking away opportunity and hope

Donald J Trump is NOT fighting drugs. He is a damned marketing and sales tool for expanding the desire for drugs.

But keep denigrating the current Venezuelan government and pedo Trump will take your advice and murder even more Venezuelans. Pedo Trump will make sure to give them another more horrendous dick tater. Do you think the pedo will object if his new dick tater gathers up all the little girls between 12 and 16 to send to fill up Trump's new East wing ballroom?

Just saying you have no idea how bad pedo Trump can make it for the people of Venezuela.

At least Maduro is not a convicted felon, a traitor and a pedophile. Pedo Trump raids people of color homes and calls it immigration enforcement when the people were born in the US. He's deporting ever Venezuelan he can get his hands on even if they are citizens. Just wait until pedo Trump starts rounding up liberals and people who post on DU.

The link you posted is pure propaganda. I'm sorry the US MAGA movement and Machado are able to con so many people. But a lot of that crap is people paid to lie and start street fights. It's propaganda placed to give the pedo Trump dick tater an excuse to start a war. Like W wanted so he could get reelected.

But keep supporting pedo Trump's buddy Machado and Venezuela will be in dire straights for decades. She is so far to the extreme right that for many years she was rejected by her own party. Putting in Pedo Trump's puppet Machado will turn Venezuela into a right wing hell hole, ruled by the filthy-rich, with no chance of voting ever again.

But sure, a pedophile dick tater should be allowed to dictate the politics of a foreign country.

It's already a hell hole with no chance your vote will matter.
Maduro lost by about 70% last time.

I doubt it will get worse then now:
Around 8 million Venezuelans have fled their country due to economic collapse, political instability, and violence, making it the largest displacement crisis in the region's history.

To think that the American people and some Republicans in Congress would go along with such a plan. SILLY!

Fuck! He has NO plans for Health Care, let alone plans for a war in Venezuela or elsewhere. "Anything Pete Hegseth does is fine with me," were his own words. What about Congress? It is their job, with facts, to declare war. Congress cannot go along with that. See poll numbers drop even more, more protests.

This scene from AVATAR comes to mind, when the Colonel meets Jake Sully for the first time. He mentions, "Venezuela.".

Most of the drugs entering the US come in from Mexico. If the US really wants to stop drugs coming into the US, every car and truck should be x-rayed before being allowed to cross the border. Of course it would delay traffic, but more drugs could be found and confiscated. It will also mess up products coming in from our trading partner, but if Mexico won't do its part then the US should.

Justice matters.

work from pre-history and up until the end of the modern History of this species.

All "wars" on drugs are just big waste of taxpayers money.

The real solution is government "control" of the quality of the drugs, how they are distributed, and how they are accompanied with programs that allow consumers to "gradually" reduce their dependence on them, until they can live without them. That requires professional guidance and health measures support. If administered properly, it would end up costing a lot less taxpayers money to solve.

With the push from drug companies selling millions of oxy pills to druggists who then pushed them on customers creating more addicts, people who don't abuse drugs got screwed. Legitimate need for drugs like codeine for pain from things like sciatica and other painful issues has hit a wall with doctors. They only prescribe aspirin, Motrin or Naproxen which really doesn't help with real pain. I have a bad knee and my doctor told me to just take Motrin which doesn't help at all. The only thing that helps is half a pill of Codeine. I'm not an addict, as I only take maybe one half pill a week, but doctors assume every one of us is a pill popping addict and refuse to help with pain management. The quality of these drugs isn't the issue. The freak out by national doctors over a situation they caused is the real issue.

So that's closer to suicide than murder. You made a choice to take it.

Other factors make it murder, but those have nothing to do with blowing up boats.

America did not win the "War On Drugs"!
Prostitution is still alive and well.
Prohibition did not work.
