(4,781 posts)And does Ahmed al-Sharaa need help in achieving it?
Since taking power, al-Sharaa has positioned Syria as a partner against ISIS.
Joining the Anti-ISIS Coalition: In November 2025, Syria officially joined the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS.
Counterterrorism Cooperation: Al-Sharaa has met with international leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, to coordinate efforts to eliminate ISIS remnants and prevent the group's resurgence.
Domestic Crackdowns: Under his leadership, the interim government has conducted raids and detained dozens of alleged ISIS members to demonstrate its commitment to regional stability.
Does a choice between Syrian nationalism versus a regional Islamic caliphate have any relevance to the People of the U.S.?
And, as always regarding events in the middle east, Does the existence of Israel have any relevance to the People of the U.S.?

The U.S. still has around a thousand troops deployed in eastern Syria as part of a coalition fighting the Islamic State group.
Last month, Syria joined the international coalition fighting against the IS as Damascus improves its relations with Western countries following last years fall of President Bashar Assad when insurgents captured his seat of power in Damascus, the wire service added.
