(16,514 posts)His path to NASCAR was so unusual compared to others. In the late 90's, during the traditional racing off season, ESPN televised some smaller regional west coast races and called it "Winter Heat." Greg Biffle was nearly 30 at the time, with little to no hope of making it to NASCAR, but caught the attention of iconic TV announcer Benny Parsons. With no other racing to watch, the entire racing community was tuned in and was soon exposed to the talents of the Washington state driver.
Parsons used his connections and media pulpit to lobby for Greg to get a chance in NASCAR. Car owner Jack Roush signed him to his NASCAR Truck team and Greg rewarded him with a championship. He then progressed to the NASCAR Busch series and ultimately to the top Cup series driving his entire career for Roush. He won multiple cup races and was the foundation of the team for many years.
After his retirement from driving race cars, Greg was a tireless volunteer in the Carolina flooding disaster and other humanitarian relief efforts.
