Alabama Student Accused Of Plotting A Terrorist Attack Against His School
Source: CNN
ALABAMA (CNN) An Alabama high school student is behind bars, accused of plotting and preparing for a terrorist attack against his school. A teacher at Russell County High School found Derek Shrouts journal after class on Friday. When she looked inside, she found something much different from the writings of a typical teenager.
Police say 17-year-old Derek Shrout is a self-proclaimed white supremacist who wanted to commit hate crimes at Russell County High School with homemade explosives. Had his book of plans not been carelessly left where a teacher could find it, the sheriff says no one may have discovered the plot until it was too late.
The journal contained several plans that looked like potential terrorist attacks, and attacks of violence and danger on the school. In particular, there were six students specifically named, and one teacher,
After the teacher who found his journal notified authorities, police searched his home and found dozens of tobacco containers filled with shrapnel and holes drilled for fuses. Investigators say Shrout was a step away from turning them into live grenades.

(4,686 posts)They have killed, raped and destroyed more people and property in this country than any muslim man, country, ethnicity, culture or religion ever have.
Its not even close.
When an American hears the word terrorist, if they are historically accurate, the first image that comes to mind should be a person with the social ideology of the far right.
I don't mean to offend, I'm just stating fact.

If the wanted to know why they would have looked into it after Columbine.
But the truth is when children go wrong it is our fault...cause we made them who they are.

(43 posts)We have alleged possession of, in order, writings, also called thoughts in some circles, and cans of fasteners, ie: nuts and bolts.
For this, DU wants to send this kid to jail for life.
Call me crazy, but I would prefer an America where one actually has to DO something bad in order to go to jail.

Innocent before proven guilty... have you heard of that?
Can we start prosecuting people for fantasies they write about in private journals? If we can, how far are we from prosecuting thought crimes?

(8,200 posts)It is unfortunate that so many kids come from radical racist homes. I suspect that this is the case in regard to his rage. Hopefully, he will come to realize that he has been brainwashed with irrational hatred. It is difficult to accept that at seventeen he doesn't have any hope from escaping this mentality. With proper supervision, I hope that his life can be made productive and fruitful. He needs help. I have lived in the South and heard radical hatred spewed without restraint. It is a wonder there aren't more people who would not hesitate to resort to violence.
