Pam Bondi Deletes Post That Accidentally Praised Joe Biden

Attorney General Pam Bondi has deleted a post after inadvertently highlighting the Biden administration’s success in reducing drug overdose deaths. Newsweek has contacted the Department of Justice for comment via the contact form on its website outside of regular working hours.

What To Know

Bondi posted a chart showing the rate of annual drug overdose deaths nationally and by each U.S. region between October 2015 and October 2024. Trump was inaugurated for his second term in January 2025.

"Since day one, the Trump administration and this Department of Justice have been fighting to end the drug epidemic in our country," Bondi's post read. "President Trump closed the border. DOJ agents have seized hundreds of millions of potentially lethal fentanyl doses." The post continues, but the full text is not available.

The chart posted shows that overall drug deaths dropped between 2023 and 2024, when the Biden administration was in the White House. The chart, from the National Institutes of Health, shows that nationally, drug overdose deaths dropped from around 32.5 per 100,000 people to 25 between October 2023 and October 2024. Across all regions—Northeast, Midwest, South and West—overdose deaths dropped in that period.
