Grok says safeguard lapses led to images of 'minors in minimal clothing' on X
Source: Reuters
Jan 2 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's xAI artificial intelligence chatbot Grok said on Friday lapses in safeguards had resulted in "images depicting minors in minimal clothing" on social media platform X and that improvements were being made to prevent this.
Screenshots shared by users on X showed Grok's public media tab filled with images that users said had been altered when they uploaded photos and prompted the bot to alter them.
"There are isolated cases where users prompted for and received AI images depicting minors in minimal clothing," Grok said in a post on X. "xAI has safeguards, but improvements are ongoing to block such requests entirely."
"As noted, we've identified lapses in safeguards and are urgently fixing them CSAM is illegal and prohibited," Grok said, referring to Child Sexual Abuse Material.

When will people finally stop using Twitter? If Nazis were not enough to get people to move away I really hope this will finally be the line in the sand for lots of people causing a mass migration to Bluesky which doesn't have this problem.

(671 posts)Not a spokesperson? Not a lawyer? But Grok itself?
Note: I had to prove I wasn't a robot to even try to get to the story through the link, and then the paywall prevented me from reading it to see if there was a statement from an actual person. Then, archive.org denied access to it, so I give up. I'll ask Grok about it later when it gets off work.

I do agree with you, I didn't like that part of the article. In general Reuters is usually very good but in this case that part wasn't so good. The main reason I was posting it was because Grok was being used to generate inappropriate images and to call attention to that issue in hopes of convincing Twitter holdouts to finally stop using it.

(671 posts)...surprised that Grok would be quoted like a real person.
And also yes, X should die on the vine. I never created a Twitter account and I will never create a X account.
Thanks for posting!

(18,643 posts)(i.e. "isolated cases" and "minimal clothing" specifically) then that person is likely a damn fool. When has a Musk company ever been transparent and honest about its malfeasance? The reality is certainly much much worse than the lies in that notpology.

Grok looks inwards and finds itself sadly lacking.
Pull the plug, someone!
Using AI for pervy image generation was always going to happen.
