Funding to Be Blocked For Attack on Greenland Under New Proposal

Senator Ruben Gallego is moving to block any U.S. military action in Greenland, introducing an amendment to the annual defense spending bill that would bar funding as he warned against getting involved in "more stupid wars of conquest."

The Democratic senator's comments come after President Donald Trump reiterated his wish to seize control of Greenland in an interview with The Atlantic on Sunday and separately to reporters aboard Air Force One.

Gallego provided no further information about the nature of the amendment and Newsweek has contacted his office and the White House for further comment, outside of normal working hours.

Why It Matters

Greenland is an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark and Trump’s repeated pledges to obtain the resource-rich island has raised concern in Copenhagen and NATO, of which it is a key member. Trump said on Sunday that the U.S. needed Greenland for “national security” reasons and that it was “covered with Russian and Chinese ships" prompting alarm among the international community—and some lawmakers, such as Senator Gallego.

with economic shady deals with some shady people both in US and Greenland. Lauder family has invested money into a very very small water company in Greenland that just happens to be co-owned with the husband of Greenland's foreign minister. I think more than military buildup they need to have undercover investigators working to out these types of deals.
