Trump cancels meetings with Iranian officials and tells protesters 'help is on its way'
Source: Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) President Trump said Tuesday hes canceled talks with Iranian officials amid a protest crackdown, telling Iranian citizens help is on its way.
Trump did not offer any details about what the help would entail, but it comes after the Republican president earlier this week said Iran wants to negotiate with Washington after his threat to strike the Islamic Republic that has killed more than 2,000, according to human right monitors.
But Trump with his latest message on social media appeared to make an abrupt shift about his willingness to engage with the Iranian government.
Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING - TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! Trump wrote in a morning post on Truth Social. Save the names of the killers and abusers. They will pay a big price. I have cancelled all meetings with Iranian Officials until the senseless killing of protesters STOPS. HELP IS ON ITS WAY.

(9,418 posts)I think we ought to do something to help those people fighting for their freedom.
But Trump WILL fuck this up and attempt to control Iranian oil.
I really wish Europe would adopt a position of leadership on issues like this. We are no longer reliable leaders of the Free World.

(4,008 posts)I interpret this as a clear sign the U.S., and/or Israel, is going to attack Iran. Bombs away, you know.
Hope I'm wrong and he only means continuing to foment rebellion and aid the uprising. Maybe provide even more weapons to the protesters (as Iran claims). No one should believe this is an organic, spontaneous uprising of just the Iranian people. It may well become that, but I don't believe that's how it started. It was planned. Look no further than evil-twins Trump and Netanyahu (and his network of Iranian collaborators, spies and agitators).
I hope for a free Iran, free of the Ayatollahs, but I fear the worst.

(4,008 posts)Nor their fomenting and arming a rebellion to bring back a hated monarchy and make Iran a subservient, powerless, unfree petro-client state. Iranian oil belongs to Iranians and Iranians should determine their own future and form of government.
Just as you would want Americans to determine their own form of government, without outside interference.
If there is an American rebellion or revolution, I hope it is peaceful, unlike what we are witnessing in Iran.

(12,202 posts)The protests began around two weeks ago in Tehrans bazaars over rampant inflation but have spread to more than 180 cities and towns across the country, morphing into general protests against the regime.
Concerns over inflation came to a head when the prices of basic goods such as cooking oil and chicken dramatically spiked, with some products vanishing from shelves altogether.
Exacerbating the situation was a decision by the central bank to end a program allowing some importers to access cheaper US dollars compared to the rest of the market. This led shopkeepers to increase prices and some to shut their doors, sparking the demonstrations.
The move by the bazaaris, as shopkeepers in the bazaars are known, is a drastic measure for a group traditionally supportive of the Islamic Republic.
Irans reformist government attempted to alleviate the pressure by offering direct cash handouts of almost $7 per month to the entire population, but the move failed to quell the unrest.
Fueled by poverty and sometimes ethnic inequality, crowds chanted Death to Khamenei, directly challenging Irans supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who holds ultimate authority over the nations religious and state affairs.

Then it becomes another U.S. client-Petro-state, dependent and beholden. By no means "free".

(17,767 posts)I just can't disagree with you, this isn't about the plight of the Iranian people living under a repressive regime, this is about Iranian oil and neutering Iran and I've no doubt that Saudi Arabia's tenacles are in this mess somewhere.

After witnessing Trump's tongue-bathing obeisance to MBS, I have no doubt Bone-Saw figures heavily in Iran's imminent demise as a formidable force in the ME.
Iran's people are just pawns to be used in the Great Reshaping.
