Journalist Laura Jedeed, despite being one of the most vocal critics of the Donald Trump administration and ICE, shared detailed accounts of how the agency offered her a job. Jedeed stated that she began the application process in August out of curiosity regarding the agencys hiring protocols, and despite her military background, she fully expected to be disqualified during a background check because her anti-administration views are easily searchable online.
She explained that the process began at a job fair in Dallas, where her initial interview lasted less than six minutes. Jedeed noted that she never filled out the official employment forms or the background check documents sent to her. Furthermore, she mentioned that she had used cannabis shortly before her scheduled drug test, yet before the results were even finalized, she discovered that the system already showed her as having been hired.
Upon logging into the official USAJobs system, she found her status marked as "Entered on Duty," even though she had submitted no domestic violence affidavits, background check information, or identification documents. Jedeed characterized this as a massive failure in the agency's recruitment process, questioning that if they could miss a vocal critic who hadn't even finished her paperwork, who elsesuch as individuals with criminal records or ties to extremist groupsmight be getting handed a gun and sent into the field.
These revelations sparked significant debate on social media and in the political world, with Democratic representatives criticizing the agency's low standards. Meanwhile, some conservative figures argued that it is normal for the government not to discriminate against an individual based on their political opinions. ICE has remained silent on the matter.
