Most Americans Don't Buy Trump Admin's Minneapolis Shooting Defense

Source: Newsweek

Jan 13, 2026 at 11:22 AM EST

A new survey conducted by YouGov has revealed that a majority of Americans do not believe the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis was justified. According to the poll, 52 percent of respondents believe that agent Jonathan Ross’s use of force was "not justified," while only 28 percent defend the action. Furthermore, 53 percent of participants believe the agent should face criminal charges.

The results show a massive divide along party lines; 88 percent of Democrats and 58 percent of independents find the killing unjustified, whereas 61 percent of Republicans defend the agent's actions. While Trump administration officials claim the agent acted in self-defense, local leaders like Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz maintain that Good posed no threat and that ICE is creating chaos in the city.

The report also notes that Vice President JD Vance defended the agent, stating, "This is a federal issue; that guy is protected by absolute immunity and was just doing his job." On the other hand, President Donald Trump took to social media to accuse Minnesota Democrats of supporting "anarchists" and declared, "The day of reckoning and retribution is coming!"

Amidst this escalating tension, Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, along with the mayors of Minneapolis and St. Paul, announced a joint lawsuit to end the "unlawful and unprecedented" surge of ICE agents in the state. In response, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that hundreds of additional agents would be deployed to Minneapolis.

that they did. The math just doesn't math for me. And I know I'll get a bunch of people howling at me that saying that means I'm just like MAGA re: claiming the 2020 election was stolen, but I don't really care. There's a lot more actual data in this case that make me believe something was "off." Plus, he ALWAYS tells on himself, and he's done so many, many times in public both before and since the 2024 election.

Trump's Postmaster General sent his operatives into swing state Democratic districts to collect the mail in ballots. DeJoy's torpedoes discarded a number of ballots that could fall in the realm of plausible deniability.
What was the undervote in swing state Democratic districts when compared to 2020?
