Trump says anything less than having Greenland in the United States' hands is 'unacceptable'

Source: AP

Updated 7:49 AM EST, January 14, 2026

NUUK, Greenland (AP) — President Donald Trump said Wednesday that NATO should help the U.S. acquire Greenland and anything less than American control is unacceptable, hours before Vice President JD Vance was to host Danish and Greenlandic officials for talks.

In a post on his social media site, Trump reiterated his argument that the U.S. “needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security.” He added that “NATO should be leading the way for us to get it” and that otherwise Russia or China would — “AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!”

“NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES,” Trump wrote. “Anything less than that is unacceptable.”

Greenland, a semiautonomous territory of NATO ally Denmark, is at the center of a geopolitical storm as Trump insists he wants to own it — and residents of its capital, Nuuk, say it isn’t for sale. The White House hasn’t ruled out taking the Arctic island by force. Vance is to meet Denmark’s foreign minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen and his Greenlandic counterpart Vivian Motzfeldt in Washington later Wednesday to discuss Greenland.

He also said that "Mexico would pay for the wall".

But this go-around, anything to distract from Epstein.

He’s literally demanding that NATO "lead the way" for the U.S. to seize Greenland from Denmark. Does he even understand what NATO is? It’s a collective defense treaty, not a brokerage firm for his Arctic fantasies.

He’s calling the sovereignty of a loyal ally "unacceptable." If we follow this path, NATO is dead. Why would any nation trust a defense pact when the leader of the alliance is eyeing their territory like a 19th-century colonial power? This is strategic self-harm at its finest.

He was 3 years old when that treaty was signed and ratified. His collegiate education (if you can call it that) was basically "business". So he had little applicable "book learning" on history and instead "learned" (if you can call it that) by "on the job" real estate ventures (and misadventures) with his father. He eventually "went global", wheeling and dealing in other countries, both before and after the breakup of the Soviet Union.

The issue isn’t just that he doesn’t understand what NATO is; it’s that he views it as an 'obsolete' burden. Because he fails to grasp the founding logic of 1949 (the Soviet threat), he perceives today’s threats from Russia and China merely as commercial competition. This gap in his background is exactly why relations with even the most loyal allies, like Denmark, are now reaching a breaking point.

Why is Trump SO OBSESSED with "owning" Greenland? Very few people live there, I'm sure the mineral resources aren't priceless and unable to be found elsewhere, and we already have a base there for security.

What could possibly be SO IMPORTANT about having this chunk of land? It's totally laughable to make this a state. Plus it would be another blue state. Republicans hate adding blue states to the US. See Puerto Rico and D.C.

1. He and his cronies will make a LOT of $$$ of it;

2. In his view, it's a "legacy" to be forever remembered in the history books (boy is he looking at it the wrong way);

3; And this is the biggest one of all...Putin says so. This is it. This is the primary driver. Putin told him to do this or he would destroy him. Putin wants NATO taken down. And Trump and Putin both have disdain fro Europe.

but it's because Peter Thiel and the other tech bro oligarchs insist it's a good idea. They believe they're entitled to Greenland with all its rare earth mineral resources, so they're using their sock puppet Donny to get it for them.

Is also 'unacceptable'.

Which one would be better to have happen?

Which one is a dodge for the people who know they are in those files and are desperate to do anything to stop their open release?

And lastly, which one will really help the faltering nation? The attempt at starting word war three, or finally releasing the files that will purge our government of its filth as well as forcing fundamental changes to our society so that it will never happen again?

Such a tough choice, I guess.

Can you imagine how proud the dead soldiers parents will be when their son/daughter dies not serving their country for an honorable reason, but to just allow an old, demented piece of dogshit attempt to get a boner?

That’s all Greenland means to him…. Something to jerk off too.

is that Greenland is part of a larger grand airhead idea he has hinted at occasionally and wants to unveil in the future. A "Golden Dome" missile defense system. Beyond the minerals and shipping routes global warming exposes it would give the U.S., Greenland sits geographically in an area that can potentially act as a defensive buffer to the flight paths of missiles coming over the Arctic circle from Russia, China, and North Korea. Positioning missile defense sites there would give an extra early warning to protect against attacks against the U.S. as well as a offensive platform that would be an advantage against those countries in the event of hostilities.

Not saying that's the right or logical thing to do.

The more practical and logical approach is to accomplish the same thing by working with NATO and Denmark through treaties and mutual defense pacts....but that would be too obvious for an evil psychopathic megalomaniac dipshit like Trump.

That, IMHO, is why Trump thinks the U.S. “needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security.” He'll try to work this into some kind of national political advantage at some point.

Justice matters.

"to take it"

They know Denmark is a signatory in the NATO alliance and would immediately invoke Article 5 so all of NATO would have to defend it.

That stupid argument is just another gaslight from the dangerous conman pedophile who knows nothing (a fucking moron, as Tillerson said), but nobody in the press seems to know that Article 5 thingie too.

So he's going to send troops he called "suckers and losers" earlier in harms way for a territory neither Russia nor China will even just TRY "to take it" ever?
