Denmark Deploys Advance Troops as Trump Threatens Takeover

Source: Newsweek

Jan 14, 2026 at 06:34 AM EST

NATO ally Denmark has begun deploying advance troops and military equipment to the region after President Donald Trump made clear his intention to take control of the Arctic island of Greenland. Trump argued on Truth Social that Greenland is vital for U.S. national security and the "Golden Dome" missile defense system they are building. He stated, "If we don’t get it, Russia or China will, and that is not going to happen!" asserting that the matter is non-negotiable.

As the crisis deepens, the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland have been invited to Washington for talks at the White House on Wednesday with Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen emphasized, "We choose Denmark," and stated they would not be under U.S. rule; meanwhile, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that U.S. moves in this direction could spell the end of the NATO alliance.

French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders expressed full solidarity with Denmark, stating that Greenland’s sovereignty belongs solely to Denmark and the people of Greenland. On the U.S. side, polls show that only 17 percent of the American public supports the acquisition of Greenland, with support for taking the island by military force at just 4 percent. The White House, however, maintains its stance that "all options are on the table," including military intervention.

Ukraine and additional countries can join.

USA is going bankrupt anyways.

AI, Grok can not take the place of millions of workers, and shithole trying to defund blue cities will further put the US in a financial downfall.

ordered an invasion of Russia (Operation Barbarossa).

He thought it would be a slam-dunk. Troops home by Christmas.

But he hadn't considered the unforgiving Russian climate: mud that would prevent tanks from going one foot and snow/ice/cold that would kill his troops.

Greenland is mostly uninhabitable. Cold/ice/snow and no roads built to move equipment. The parts of the country that can be accessed are limited.

And Trump made the fatal mistake of announcing his intentions, allowing military beyond Greenland to mobilize and get prepared.

won't announce that the United States will defend a NATO ally against any threats from Russia or China. That would also prevent Russia or China from invading Greenland. Further, the Diddler's logic is crushed by an assumption that NATO and the EU won't tolerate ANY INVASION OF GREENLAND, including an invasion by the Diddler.
