Trump intent on conquering Greenland, Danish minister says as talks with US end

Source: The Guardian

Donald Trump remains intent on “conquering” Greenland, the Danish foreign minster has said, as crucial talks with US officials failed to solve a “fundamental disagreement” that has led to unprecedented tensions between Washington and a Nato ally.

It is “absolutely not necessary” for the US to seize Greenland, a largely self-governing part of the Danish kingdom, the Danish foreign minster, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, said late on Wednesday.

“We didn’t manage to change the American position. It’s clear that the president has this wish of conquering Greenland. And we made it very, very clear that this is not in the interest of the kingdom.”

Rasmussen urged Washington to engage in “respectful” cooperation over the Arctic island that is controlled by Copenhagen.

At this point -and I hate to say this, but the EU should probably start disengaging diplomatically from the US by closing US bases in Europe, removing investments in the US Treasury and preparing sanctions. They should fully prepare for war until Trump finally shuts the fuck up.

It’s a ridiculously bad idea. There is no demand or outcry from the American public, but for some off the wall noises of poorly informed MAGAts who dont know what they are talking about.

has never stopped Trump at any point in his life. People have kowtowed to him from the start, and appeasing him just makes him demand more.

From within these formerly United States. I am willing to do anything that helps stabilize or restore the trans-Atlantic partnership that Trump is busily wiping his ample ass with. I will gladly do anything required to cause the Trump regime to fall. Please work with Canada to make preparations for secessions from the former USA to join Canada as soon as this summer and to support others that split off into self-governing entities free from Washington DC and Trump's criminal gangs.

I am also making a formal plea for military assistance in the form of either UN or EU troops to act as peacekeepers and to engage ICE troops and require them to abide the law of the land...

Most of the world’s military planners are still planning on how to fight the last war. As usual.

No one is paying attention to Ukraine’s tactics. No one is paying attention to what happened at the Fauklands when the UK attacked.

Drones and relatively cheap missiles make anything larger than a jeep/rowboat a target.

Submarines and (maybe) aircraft will last a couple of decades longer, at the most, but the writing is on the wall for them too.

We would have had solar powered cars by now, if not for the oil tycoons. We would have green energy, if not for the fossil fuel lobby. So I'm wondering how many of our soldiers have to die because the military lobby refuses to give up on the big ships and war planes. We're going to turn into the Spanish Armada. Too slow to respond to the smaller, faster ships.

I saw in a thread earlier that only 17% back his plan. I'm betting not much of Congress would either. Its a safe bet that would lose them most of the seats in the mid-terms if they did.

And I ask once again: Where is all this war chest supposed to be coming from? Has he even thought that far ahead?

From Forbes: “These Billionaires Bet Big On Greenland—After Trump Took Interest”

“Just months after President Donald Trump first expressed interest in the United States possibly gaining control over Greenland, some of the richest people in the world—including Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates and Michael Bloomberg—began making strategic investments in the mineral-rich island.”

When asked why “ownership” over Greenland is so important, President Trump said, “Because that's what I feel is psychologically needed for success."

This is 1980's thinking. We already have open freedom to share the resource wealth with Greenland and Denmark. For at least 50 plus
years now. We already have military bases for land, sky, and sea access to Greenland. If he really believes that Russia and China
have their eyes and hands ready to try to take this resource before us ; perhaps Mr. art of the deal create a real alliance to keep
our stake in this.
Too damn greedy and short sighted !

When the UK and France carved up the Middle East between them, and Italy marched into Libya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Albania. The last time the USA was quite so open about imperialism was the 1900s, with the Philippines and Puerto Rico.
