Former magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to reject President Donald Trump's petition seeking the court's review of her successful $5 million defamation case against him.
Trump was found liable in 2023 of sexually abusing Carroll, a former Elle magazine writer, in a department store dressing room in the 1990s and then defaming her when he denied it. The jury awarded Carroll $5 million, which Trump still owes.
Appeals court rejects Trump's bid to challenge $5 million E. Jean Carroll judgment
Trump asked the Supreme Court to intervene, arguing the judge in the case should not have allowed the jury to view an excerpt from the infamous "Access Hollywood" tape, in which Trump is heard describing lewd behavior that he downplayed as "locker room talk."
Trump also faulted the trial judge for allowing testimony from two women -- Jessica Leeds and Natasha Stoynoff -- who claimed that Trump had sexually assaulted them, which Trump denies.

Just pay the fine already.

(166,075 posts)he had to put the money into some kind of escrow account so when all is said and done with the delays, the court should go ahead and release that (along with the $83 million he still owes, done as a bond as he continues appealing).
She just turned 82 last month so he's probably hoping to stall long enough with a fantasy to wait out her demise.

(21,873 posts)Trump's first-term whine, when neither Jeff Sessions nor Bill Barr obeyed every one of his commands without question.
He believes the SCOTUS is there "to serve him" (so far, he's right)
He believes the Military and the DOJ is there "to serve him."
He does not acknowledge "branches of government."
He acknowledges John Roberts telling him "And so, good King Donald, go throughout all the land and do as you choose, free from the laws of man."

(1,922 posts)This should be a hard swift rejection.
But this court is so corrupted they may do anything. God, please let the Dems win overwhelmingly in 26 and pass legislation to update judicial requirements, extend them to SCOTUS, and have severe punishment for breaking the rules.
And NO avoiding/stopping judicial investigations by stepping down like the assholes sister judge did.

So he has to appeal until he finds a friendly court, probably spending half the settlement cost on legal fees. Typically, after he loses he'll claim he was completely exonerated.
