Canada PM Mark Carney gets standing ovation at Davos as he warns of world order 'rupture'

Source: Independent

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney received a standing ovation at Davos Tuesday as he warned that “the old order is not coming back.”

Carney spoke at the World Economic Forum, insisting the world order based on rules has become “fiction” and stressing the need for smaller countries to forge new alliances.

"If great powers abandon even the pretense of rules and values for the unhindered pursuit of their power and interests, the gains from transactionalism will become harder to replicate," Carney said, without mentioning President Donald Trump or the U.S.

“We understand that this rupture calls for more than adaptation. It calls for honesty about the world as it is,” he continued.

Now Carney needs to follow up his words by sending some Canadian troops to Greenland, and selling off some US treasury bonds.

…but if Carney is smart, he’ll also have troops ready to go to the US/Canada border. Don’t think Trump won’t try the same. He will.

You can read its "charter" here: https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/trump-board-of-peace-charter-full-text

It puts Trump in charge, says he gets to decide who joins, he gets to call meetings, he gets to approve any decisions, he designates his successor, and he continues as chairman until he decides to resign, or there's a unanimous vote (by his handpicked board) of incapacity. He can remove states from membership, subject only to a two thirds majority veto by other states (that he had previously handpicked). He is the final authority for interpretation of the rules. He can veto any change to the rules.

It doesn't say much about what it would actually do, apart from encourage peace (everywhere, not just the Middle East), with a lot of vague terms, and veiled criticism of other attempts (so probably the UN).

It's a way of getting international toadies paying for him to strut the world stage until he snuffs it. If he or the toadies want, it's a way of undermining the UN.

Nobody with any morals should touch it with a bargepole.

Is trying to play on both sides. This is the kind of stuff that I find just fucking frustrating. Talk all that shit about how horrible he is than placate him and justify his actions by playing into his insanity.

Canadians should be embarrassed right now, watching their government kiss this warmongering psychopath's ass while he creates a multi-billion dollar slush fund to murder Palestinians and steal their land to turn it into a playground for his billionaire buddies.

One of the most inspiring speeches I've ever heard. Thanks for publicizing it. Needs to be pinned.
