Stallone is from NYC too
Until recently, they were still debating over where to put the statue (there is a replica statue that actually belongs to Stallone that gets moved around). The original (from one of the movies) has been at the base of the steps (with a later tourist structure and then without that and its own fencing) for years. I drove back and forth to work by that every day.
They had a replica at the top of steps for some events. Now the one at the base is moving to the top of the steps (after it spends some time inside the museum with the replica outside and then goes back out to the top of the steps, with another replica supposedly to be installed at the airport). As a note, I have seen not one Rocky movie.
I guess the original "Rocky" is on my watch list for one day for its 50th anniversary.
