The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is now offering a stipend of $2,600 for migrants to self-deport through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) app starting on Wednesday—with DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announcing that "the U.S. taxpayer is generously increasing the incentive to leave voluntarily for those in this country illegally." Why It Matters

DHS framed the higher stipend—increased from $1,000—as a cost-saving measure for taxpayers compared with enforced removals and as part of a broader push to increase voluntary departures.
