House Narrowly Passes ICE Funding Bill With Democratic Support After Jeffries Declined To Whip Against It

Source: Mediaite.com

A bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security narrowly passed the House on Thursday, 220-207.

Seven Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure, which ensures that DHS and its agencies, such as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, will be funded through the end of September. ICE will receive $10 billion for the fiscal year. But the agency has tens of billions more at its disposal, thanks to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which allocated $85 billion to the agency last year. The staggering figure was more than most countries spend on their militaries in a single year.

While House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) opposed the latest DHS funding bill, he did not whip his conference against it, according to The American Prospect. Citing two congressional sources, the publication reported on Wednesday that leadership was “recommending” that members vote against the legislation, but was not engaged in an active whipping campaign. “They’re terrified of being labeled anti–law enforcement,” a source on Capitol Hill told the Prospect. “They want this to go away so they can talk about the cost of living more. Problem is, it’s not going away.”

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) was the lone Republican to vote against the bill. Four Republicans did not vote. The seven Democrats who voted in favor were Reps. Henry Cuellar (TX), Don Davis (NC), Laura Gillen (NY), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA), Jared Golden (ME), Vicente Gonzalez (TX), and Tom Suozzi (NY).

Dems need someone like Jared Moskowitz or Eric Swalwell who can rip the MAGAt bastards and do it with a smile on their face. I would add AOC and Jasmine Crockett however we all understand about the current state of sexism and racism in America when 6 million Biden voters couldn't even turn out for Kamala Harris.

They fund it. They own it.

A certain group loves to scold DUers for questioning Democratic strategy or for voicing doubt about how Dems are handling Trump.

"What do you expect them to do?" ask the scolds. "They're the minority."

Well, for starters, they could vote "No" on every piece of pro-Trump legislation that comes up.

Dems don't want to look weak on law-enforcement? Well great; now they look strongly pro-Gestapo.

History will not be kind, nor should it be.

The area has been getting a huge influx of Hispanic people and the usual workers there are not happy about being 'shown up' on the job site.

I am thinking that this is why he voted the way that he did.

That is my home area as well. It has historically been a blue area, even as the rest of the state drowns in red.

Lets hope the people there want to remain that way.

Yet another opportunity to stand against the outrageous actions of this regime squandered, all on account of a few Democratic chickenshits. Thanks for nothing. Jeffries needs to be replaced, preferably next week. Keep a list of these turncoats, and when the next ICE atrocity inevitably happens, let them hear from you---the blood is on their hands.

"Republican majority passes budget and its Minority Leaders fault!"

Guess what, had he whipped, Republicans had 4 more votes from reps not there they could have used to pass it. Stopping it from passing the house was literally impossible.

Blaming Democrats when we dont even have power to stop anything is just a quiet way to support Trump.

camp can make the argument that even Democratic Mexican Congresspersons support a harsh immigration policy.

Gonzalez was born on September 4, 1967, in Corpus Christi, Texas. His father was a merchant seaman who served in the Korean War. His mother was born and raised in Mexico.
On June 4, 1988, Kristina Marie Gluesenkamp Perez was born as Kristina Marie Pérez in Harris County, Texas. Her father immigrated from Mexico.
Cuellar was born in Laredo, Texas. Both of his parents were Mexican-American. His father, Martin Siller Cuellar Sr. (1926–2019), was born in Tamaulipas, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States. His mother, the late Odilia Perez (1928–2015), was a native of Zapata, Texas.

one single vote. All those dipshits did was shed Dem and Ind votes. States with large Hispanic populations don’t like ICE. Hell, even the Cubans in Florida are pissed. How hard would it have been to say, “Until there is a transparent investigation into the death of Renee Good I will not vote for funding for ICE” How hard? Apparently impossible for 7 little shit weasels. The midterms are ours to win or lose and it seems like we are hell bent on loosing.😢

apparently into a newly assembled detention facility. It is another case of a blue city in a red state that will get no protection from the state police or national guard. These MFers are everywhere. Remember that Miller says there will be detention facilities in every state. And remember that the word "detention" is intentionally used because it literally means no laws apply. No habeas corpus. No access to lawyers. No arraignment before a judge. They can just lock you up for as long as they feel like it.

So WTF is our Dem "leadership" doing, not opposing this in the slightest?

We need new leadership in every position.

I don’t understand why elected Democrats are so afraid of supporting our own beliefs.

Reaganomics, Iraq, forgiving GOP crimes “for the good of the country.”

I fear all we have are strongly-worded letters, and reassurances that “God is in the throne.”

Until we have leadership willing to fight, we will continue our 45-year desert-wandering, I fear.
