Trump administration weighs naval blockade to halt Cuban oil imports

Source: Politico

The Trump administration is weighing new tactics to drive regime change in Cuba, including imposing a total blockade on oil imports to the Caribbean country, three people familiar with the plan said Thursday.

That escalation has been sought by some critics of the Cuban government in the administration and backed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to two of the three people, who were granted anonymity to discuss the sensitive discussions. No decision has been made on whether to approve that move, but it could be among the suite of possible actions presented to President Donald Trump to force the end of Cuba’s communist government, these people added.

Preventing shipments of crude oil to the island would be a step-up from Trump’s statement last week that the U.S. would halt Cuba’s imports of oil from Venezuela, which had been its main crude supplier.

But there are ongoing debates within the administration about whether it is even necessary to go that far, according to all three people. The loss of Venezuelan oil shipments — and the resale of some of those cargoes that Havana used to obtain foreign currency — has already throttled Cuba’s laggard economy. A total blockade of oil imports into Cuba could then spark a humanitarian crisis, a possibility that has led some in the administration to push back against it.

Causing humanitarian crises doesn’t seem to bother them very much.

I don’t think that either the Trumpies or those Cuban emigres dreaming of using the American military to overthrow the Havana government have thought about the consequences. I suspect that the emigres who plan to take over Cuba’s government and economy will be reviled as traitors or turncoats or worse. The Cuban people will not see the US military as liberators and will fight.

Also the Cartels will have a heyday. Imagine a launching pad a mere 90 miles or so from the US mainland, an impoverished, resentful population with no love for the Gringo authorities, and the cartels are better-armed, better-organized and far more ruthless than the old Mob ever was.

Watch the excrement hit the fan!

And the Rethuglies claim they are better at foreign affairs than those Commie-lib Democrats ever were.

Yeah, sure, right.

And all of ICE will have to be stationed along south Florida's coastline to repel the hordes of Cuban immigrants fleeing the conflict started by Trump. Will Hegseth be given orders to sink all boats of immigrants coming from Cuba and call them drug smugglers?

The current Cuban President is Miguel Diaz-Canal, who was educated as an electrical engineer. He was negotiating with President Obama to open up relations with the US, while implementing political and economic reforms in Cuba. That all went down the toilet when Fuck-for-brains slithered into the White House with help from Putin, Musk, and the rest of the deplorables.

We've screwed over the Cuban people with the insane trade embargo, and in so doing have backed Cuba into a corner as far as political reforms.

I can tell you where this goes. If Trump makes an already bad situation in Cuba worse, everything that floats in Cuba will load up with refuges and head for Florida. Of course Trump will try to prevent this with force. Hundreds (thousands?) will die. Pictures of drowned women and children washing up on Florida beaches will flash around the world. It's hard to predict how the world will react.

The Florida Cubans are in for a rude awakening when they find out what it means to have their long protected status disappear. By now there are several generations born here which means, thanks to the 14th Amendment, they are citizen. Many of the older Cubans have never been naturalized. It's going to get ugly when ICE starts to round them up. Knowing the monster that is Trump, if there is a surge in refuges heading to the U.S., he will retaliate against the Florida Cubans.

Of course the demented imbecile President and his alcoholic failed National Guard major will order it and the admirals will knuckle under.

Meanwhile it looks as though the USS Abraham Lincoln and its accompanying carrier task group will be offshore of Iran within 24 hours.

On top of all this, we are still shooting up fishing boats around Venezuela while the Gestapo have expanded their reign of terror into Maine.

The first few chapters of William Shirer’s “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” describe Hitler’s rise to power and it seems as though we are as a nation just about at the end of those chapters.
