Pam Bondi Offers To Pull ICE out of Minneapolis if Voter Files Handed Over

Source: Newsweek

Published Jan 25, 2026 at 06:56 AM EST updated Jan 25, 2026 at 08:07 AM EST

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz demanding the state take three specific actions before federal immigration agents would consider reducing their presence in Minneapolis, including handing over voter rolls.

In the letter, Bondi blamed both state and local leaders for the unrest that has come in response to the Trump administration's immigration enforcement operations. She said that Walz could "restore the rule of law."

The Context

The letter comes after a Border Patrol agent shot and killed Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse, during a federal immigration enforcement operation. The shooting of Pretti comes less than three weeks after Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother of three, was shot dead by an immigration agent in the same city.

Both incidents have sparked widespread protests and condemnation. In the case of both shootings, conflicting narratives have come from federal and state officials, and video footage taken by bystanders at both incidents has sparked questions and criticism. Federal agents said that Pretti resisted violently, and Security Secretary Kristi Noem has said that an official fired "defensive shots." Walz, though, has said that this account is "nonsense" and "lies."

Bondi is putting her Trump university law degree on full display. We all learned in elementary school that the U.S. constitution gives the states the authority to run elections, NOT the feds. Bondi's demand is unconstitutional and it's nothing more than another version of the Jeb Bush/Katherine Harris felon purge in Florida in 2000 that illegally removed more than 50,000 legally registered democrats in Florida most of whom were African Americans.

Bondi and her fellow Trump clowns are a case study in undermining and thumbing their noses at both the constitution and the rule of law.

they have been working very hard on this, ever since they committed treason to throw the election to Regan in 1980.
Some of us here have been screaming our heads off from the roof tops, continuously ever since........
There has been no protest with things like the 2000 election, the 2004 election, and the 2016 election, etc
Include the FUBAR war on Iraq by Cheney/Rumsfeld that was founded on lies that we knew even before the War....

They have gotten away with everything, and now two murders for starters, and most probably many more by ICE that we don't even know about in their immigrant GULAGS.

The Republican Senators, the Republican House, and the US Supreme Court are actually more guilty. If they weren't, they would have impeached Trump the first week, in 2016.

The Republicans have elected the best Politicains that money can buy.....period. Financed by the Republican Uber Rich top 1%, the Republican Corporations, and the Republican owned/operated mass media......

The Republicans did everything they could do to win the 2020 election, and then some, including a massive insurrection to overthrow the 2020 election. The then emasculated Biden and the Dems from doing anything for four years. They used the four years to make a plan to destroy the dems in 2024........and be in total power from then on. They are executing their Stephen Miller/2025 checklist, checking off their atrocious actions with each and every day that passes.......

Their actions co-incide with Putin's conveniently.......Destroy the U.S. Economy, the U.S. Government, the U.S. Constitution, our beloved Democracy, and crush everyone in the remaining 99%.

It would certainly appear, to any reasonable person, that we are in a check mate situation which is what they have organized, orchestrated, planned and executed for over 46 years, folks.......AND, I have the distinct feeling, that their progression, towards a Dictatorship...... is rapidly accelerating, and that we ain't seen nothing yet........

violating voters’ rights is more important to the Trump regime than murdering innocent citizens engaged in peaceful, lawful protest.

It also demonstrates that the deployment of ICE thugs is about the regime’s use of violent political intimidation rather than enforcing immigration law.

Surely they have one Minnesotan on staff who can make that request. Link: https://www.sos.mn.gov/election-administration-campaigns/data-maps/registered-voter-list-requests/

Note: This information is only available to registered Minnesota voters, and may only be used for purposes related to elections, political activities, or law enforcement. (Minnesota Statutes 201.091)

The kind of information available:
Voter name, address, phone, birth year, voter ID, registration date, county, MCD, precinct, school district code, other district codes, detailed voting history (election date, election description, and voting method), permanent absentee.

If Minnesota's voter information system is anything like Florida's, this is all the voter information they have except signature samples and voter id information such as last 4 digits of the voter's Social Security number or their driver's license number.

I went to the Minnesota Secretary of State site and got this:

How do I change my party registration?
Voters do not declare a party when they register to vote in Minnesota, so there is nothing to change! Minnesota has an "open primary" so voters choose which party's primary to participate in when they vote their ballot.

In most cases no one will know which party's primary you voted in. However, for the Presidential Primary, the major party chair will get a list of voters who chose their party's ballot.

64. MaddowBlog-Minnesota quickly rejects AG Pam Bondi's request for the state's voter rolls
Mon Jan 26, 2026, 12:24 PM
Jan 26

Minnesota’s secretary of state accused Bondi of making an “unlawful request a part of an apparent ransom to pay for our state’s peace and security.”

https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/minnesota-quickly-rejects-ag-pam-bondis-request-for-the-states-voter-rolls

But that’s not all she did. The same day, the U.S. attorney general sent a three-page letter to Minnesota’s Democratic governor, sketching out three demands — what Bondi characterized as “common sense solutions” — that she asked Walz to obey.

Specifically, she directed Walz to (1) repeal Minnesota’s “sanctuary policies”; (2) disclose more information related to the state’s social insurance programs that became the subject of a fraud investigation; and (3) turn over the state’s voter registration records to the Trump administration.
The governor appeared unimpressed with the correspondence. “I would just give a pro tip to the attorney general: There’s 2 million documents in the Epstein files we’re still waiting on. Go ahead and work on those,” Walz said at a Sunday news conference.

Around the same time, Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon issued a statement of his own, specifically related to Bondi’s attempts to acquire the state’s voter rolls:

The answer to Attorney General Bondi’s request is no. Her letter is an outrageous attempt to coerce Minnesota into giving the federal government private data on millions of U.S. Citizens in violation of state and federal law. This comes after repeated and failed attempts by the DOJ to pressure my office into providing the same data. […]

Our position on the federal government’s request to access Minnesota voting records starts and ends with the law. The law does not give the federal government the authority to obtain this private data. … In Minnesota, we will continue to follow the letter of the law, which requires us to protect the private data of our voters.

The Democratic secretary of state’s statement added, “It is deeply disturbing that the U.S. Attorney General would make this unlawful request a part of an apparent ransom to pay for our state’s peace and security. More broadly, the federal government must end the unprecedented and deadly occupation of our state immediately.”
