Bari Weiss's new CBS hires include 'germ theory denialist' doctor

Source: The Guardian

Among the new hires at CBS announced by Bari Weiss is a doctor who has claimed that he has reduced his biological age by 20 years with therapies including cold plunges; that cod liver oil can treat autism and that conditions like Alzheimer’s and dementia can be reversed with the kind of nutritional supplements he also sells on his online store.

Dr Mark Hyman, who has been called a “germ theory denialist” by medical author Harriet Hall, and has been brought on as a contributor in Weiss’s revamping of CBS’s news division. He is perhaps the most prominent exponent of so-called “functional medicine” (FM), an alternative medicine that oncological surgeon David Gorski has described as “pure quackery”.

Like some other moves at CBS, his hiring is likely to win favor with the Donald Trump administration.

Hyman is a longtime collaborator with health and human services secretary, Robert F Kennedy Jr, writing a preface for Kennedy’s 2014 book that argued for the removal of the preservative Thimerosal from vaccines, and appearing alongside Kennedy in an upcoming documentary, Maha Uncensored. Hyman also co-authored a diet book with evangelical pastor Rick Warren.

He (Hyman) is perhaps the most prominent exponent of so-called “functional medicine” (FM), an alternative medicine that oncological surgeon David Gorski has described as “pure quackery.”

…. I remember that under high magnification little grey fuzzy things at the side of the fungi and
the technician told me those were viruses … denial of proven science is infuriating.

I was reading a book about the building of the Brooklyn Bridge a few years ago and the original
designer of the bridge (John Roebling) died needless of lockjaw because he didn’t believe in germ
theory. Btw I looked up the # of deaths we have from lock jaw every year in the United States and
it is about 30 to 50 and almost everyone of them didn’t have a tetanus shot.

Weiss hasn't figured out that those audiences don't scale and even if they did, advertisers want nothing to do with them. How a ridiculous small-minded hatemonger rose up to head a national news division is media malpractice.

She thinks she's an original thinker because her ideas are so "out there," but she's just a narcissist who collects sycophants to say her wacky ideas make her a genius.

She has been elevated by CBS' upper mgmt, which has given her the idea that she's some sort of visionary. I think they are using her and her bogus cache to run CBS News into the ground. She may well succeed, but it won't be due to any sort of grand design on her part. She'll just blow it all up with incompetence.

to tell me what's needed for my well being. I trust my doctor. I've gone through two doctors - father, and then his son - in my lifetime. They know everything about me, and I mean everything about me, and have treated me for 60 of my 76 years on this planet. That's rare in today's healthcare world, and I consider myself to be extremely fortunate.

But this freaking "doctor" ain't gettin' anywhere near me!

And Bari Weiss can't figure out why CBS is folding like a two-legged card table.

Just like the covid vaccine deniers on TV that were, and still are, fully vaccinated against covid.
