Teamsters back Greg Abbott as unions split endorsements in governor's race

Source: Houston Chronicle

Gov. Greg Abbott on Wednesday drew the backing of a slew of labor unions, including the Texas Teamsters, in his bid for a record fourth term in office — a series of endorsements that the Republican touted as a first from labor groups that have historically backed Democrats.

... ANY support, however reserved, I might've had over the years for the Teamsters Union. No rationalization can defend an alliance with a psychotic monster like Greg Abbott. A great many Texans secretly wish that tree had been bigger.

president to walk a picket line. 80-100 years ago this would have earned him undying loyalty from the vast majority of workers. US workers have become so propagandized and sycophantic that President Biden walking the picket line barely made a ripple. It may be impolitic to say so, but I think that the US workforce is going to get what we deserve.

However my point was about the individual union voters who didn’t support President Biden, or for that matter any Democratic candidate after the Democratic president for the first time in history walked a picket line.

In 2024, they were noncommittal even before he dropped out. And then of course they sat on their hands when Kamala was the nominee.

9. Talk Radio

Most truckers listen to talk radio for hours on end, every day they work. Talk radio is almost exclusively right-oriented, from a significant "leaning" to out and out reactionary bordering on seditious. In many parts of the heartland, the south, and the mountain west--across which interstate truckers must travel--there are simply no other options to while away the hours.

I suppose podcasts might be an alternative, but the bias is built in, now. When they sit down for a meal at a truckstop or are in the breakroom if they are local truckers, the conversations are mostly one-sided. The social pressure to conform surely influences a few of them.
