Trump strikes deal to allow $800M in beef imports from Argentina to enter US

Source: The Hill

President Trump has struck a new deal increasing beef imports from Argentina despite facing push back from Republicans and allies in the agricultural sector.

Argentina’s foreign ministry said in a statement the agreement was signed Thursday and grants “an unprecedented expansion of preferential access for Argentine beef to its market by 100,000 tons.”

The country’s foreign ministry added that the agreement will ensure an additional 80,000 tons of beef from Argentina can enter U.S. markets by 2026 in addition to the 20,000 tons already allowed. This will amount to an increase of $800 million in Argentine beef exports to the U.S.

The foreign ministry also noted the U.S. government “reaffirmed its commitment” to reviewing its tariffs on aluminum and steel. Trump is expected to make the announcement Friday.

I'm sure the number is very high so that means there's a whole lot of racist mf'ers farming in the US. I don't give a fuck about them. They don't give a fuck about basic rights under the Constitution. I'd rather buy frozen veggies from China than the US at this point.

We are going to pay $5 per pound wholesale for 80,000 tons of beef, not to mention shipping etc...

And this is gonna reduce costs how exactly?

This sounds more like a negotiated floor on beef prices to protect Us farmers?
On that note, farmers in the USA average $4.90 per lb hanging weight.

I just searched, and according to a couple of websites, the USA produced almost 27 billion with a B pounds of beef in 2024. That's 13 million 500 thousand tons of beef. That means what's being introduced into the market represents about 0.6% of the entire beef market.

This will raise prices even more.
Just an ignorant point of view, as I'm no farmer and not familiar with things if this nature except that my bullshit meter went of the charts reading the Hill's report.

According to other press this move will allow more lean beef TRIMMINGS into the US, In other words beef to make hamburger out of, The price of most other cuts probably will not change much at all
