McConnell: Congressional role in trade policy 'not an inconvenience to avoid'

Source: The Hill

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) joined several other Republicans in expressing his approval of Friday’s Supreme Court decision largely knocking down President Trump’s tariffs. The court found in a 6-3 decision that many of the Trump administration’s tariffs were unlawfully imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

In a statement released on Friday afternoon, McConnell noted Congress’ constitutional authority over taxes and tariffs. “Today, the Supreme Court reaffirmed authority that has rested with Congress for centuries,” the Kentucky senator said.

McConnell joined three other Republicans to vote for a Senate resolution last October that called for the Trump administration to repeal its tariffs on foreign nations. The vote passed amid rising discontent from U.S. consumers and businesses with the administration’s economic policies.

“As a matter of policy, the empty merits of sweeping trade wars with America’s friends were evident long before today’s decision,” McConnell said on Friday. “The American people already know that when Washington throws up artificial barriers, building and buying here at home become more expensive.

How chickenshit does a senator have to be to wait for an SC ruling before pointing out what the US constitution says?

You always had the power to stop Trump. You and the Republican party bowed down before Trump and never stood up to him.

Now the the Supreme Court has ruled and you don't have to stand up to Trump or DO anything. You are trying to get out in front of the news cycle with a "bold" comment.

NOW... you have finally found your voice. How brave of you and the other Republicans.

So far as I know (and I've not done ay searching) the marks the ONLY time McConnell has brought up Article I with respect to Trump's actions (or ever? Certainly not during the Bush 43 administration.)

Up until now, it's been one Senate GOP wet kiss after another given to proponents of the because-we-say-so, wholly bullshitty, and utterly inconsistent* Unitary Executive "theory."

*Stop taking Unitarizec if you are or thinking about becoming a Democrat. Side effects might include fascism, corruption, crime, or the abolishment of Constitutional Freedoms. Ask your doctor if Unitarizec is right for you.

for Trump and his agenda of revenge/avarice/bigotry.. Mitch used Trump, a preening toxic clown, to pack the courts with incompetent dogmatic ideologues tasked with nullifying Roe v Wade/the Affordable Care Act/the Marriage Equality Act.. busy as he was destroying a woman’s right to choose/denying health insurance to the most vulnerable/patrolling bedrooms, Mitch shoved thru a nauseatingly obscene tax cut for his billionaire donors...all this while his wife, Elaine Chao, was Trump’s labor secretary..no conflict there..

Mitch, that decrepit quasi cadaver, had two opportunities to rid us of Trump, two opportunities to impeach Trump, two opportunities to turn Trump into a cautionary tale of corruption and incompetence at the top..instead Mitch voted no..twice..

Here’s hoping Mitch dies a very slow agonizing death..

You gave up your right to speak against this bullshit when you whipped your senators into shape so they didn’t convict after he was impeached. Get the fuck out, shut the fuck up, and sit the fuck down.

Between tRump and Mitch I can't decide who I'd love to see "drop dead on live" TV first. I wonder if there is a way to get both of them on the same stage for all the viewers out there. Maybe the State of the Union address would be a nice venue.
