DAKAR, Senegal (AP) Being gay in Morocco is illegal and punishable by up to three years in prison. But it was the violence from her family that forced Farah, a 21-year-old gay woman, to flee the country.
After a long journey to the United States and a third-country deportation by the Trump administration, however, Farah said she is now back in Morocco and in hiding.
It is hard to live and work with the fear of being tracked once again by my family, she told The Associated Press, in a rare testimony from a person deported via a third country despite having protection orders from a U.S. immigration judge. But there is nothing I can do. I have to work.
She asked to be identified by her first name only for fear of persecution. The AP saw her protection order and lawyers verified parts of her account.

(105,927 posts)We are deeply disturbed by reports that the Trump administration plans to carry out a third deportation flight of Iranian nationals to the Islamic Republic of Iran, including LGBTQ and gay Iranians who face a death sentence by the regime. We previously sent a letter to Secretaries Rubio and Noem in October seeking answers about these deportations, given Irans brutal authoritarian regime and its well-documented record of human rights abuses. To date, we have received no substantive response from DHS or DoS.
Amid the recent nationwide protests in Iran, where thousands have been killed or brutally detained while calling for basic freedoms, this silence is unacceptable. Despite President Trumps claim that 'HELP IS ON ITS WAY,' Trump has refused to support Irans brave protesters through foreign aid or expanded internet access, which are desperately needed. Sending more people into harms way now defies both common sense and the presidents own statements that he stands with the Iranian people. The United States cannot be complicit in putting innocent lives at risk.
