Trump bashed for using Mar-a-Lago 'blanket fort' to monitor Iran strikes

Source: Raw Story

February 28, 2026 6:12PM ET

President Donald Trump was bashed on Saturday after photos emerged of the "blanket fort" at his Mar-a-Lago estate that he used as a Situation Room to monitor the strikes in Iran.

The White House posted a photo of Trump alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, Director of Personnel Dan Scavino, and other administration officials on its X account on Saturday evening. The photo shows a makeshift room surrounded by black curtains and multiple maps of the region.

One Israeli reporter described the room as "the situation room at Mar-a-Lago," referring to the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) where other presidents monitor military operations. The officials were monitoring the fallout from the U.S. and Israel's coordinated strikes against multiple sites in Iran in an attack called " Operation Epic Fury."

Political analysts and observers bashed the photo on social media. "Calling it 'the situation room at Mar-a-Lago' doesn’t morph that blanket fort into a SCIF," Joyce Vance, law professor at the University of Alabama, posted on X.

As noted elsewhere, Wiles is wearing a Apple watch (or equivalent). There are NO outside electronics allowed in a SCIF. pat_k Mar 1 #1

He's making one of his fake "serious business" facial expressions, too. How charming.

you know trump would be regaling guests at dinner about what's occurred and plans for future actions to anyone willing to listen. He's about as secure as a leaking bag of garbage.

Zoom in on the map. Are the red dots targets or where they have bombed? What is up with the flag push pins?
