The National Rifle Association's call for armed guards in schools across the country drew intense criticism in many circles, but a poll released Thursday shows that voters in a key swing state overwhelmingly support the proposal.
According to the latest survey from Quinnipiac University, 66 percent of registered voters in Virginia favor the idea of placing armed police officers in the Commonwealth's public schools while only 29 percent are opposed.
But Virginia voters are staunchly opposed to arming educators: 31 percent favor allowing teachers to carry concealed weapons in the classroom, compared with 66 percent who are opposed.

(16,079 posts)The NRA who made the suggestion, the gun manufacturers who make the product, and the "66%" that like the idea should pay higher taxes!
Not all Virginians!

(96 posts)Are you saying that only those who support abortion should pay taxes to assist in abortions? Should only those who support green technology and energy pay taxes for those interests? We don't and can't work that way.

(50,928 posts)I suppose a work around would be to impose a tax on sales of any firearm or ammo sales in Virginia and an annual $1 tax on the NRA for each member residing in Virginia? More than likely it would be difficult to get the necessary data on that. It probably still wouldn't be enough to fund the security for schools in Virginia.

(10,857 posts)Think this through, people! If you arm people in schools, you are automatically arming potential school shooters.
If people in schools are armed, school shooters don't even have to worry about procuring a weapon, getting it inside, or dealing with a defender in the school, because they can solve all three of those problems by starting with killing the guard with the gun.
(edit: "guard," not teacher, as if there is a major difference. To a murderous and suicidal person, the person with the gun is merely the first target.)

but no private force.and make sure they are not racists.
If one is hiring, why not hire the best, either Minister Farakhan's the singular best in security,
or have special forces trained by Mossad.
Israel is a democracy that has armed guards on the street. And it works pretty well these days.

(32,006 posts)COPS has nothing to do with schools with respect to providing security. They do educational type of presentations and work with community groups on specific crime strategy. They are not guards.

COPs program hires cops it also provided money for rehiring cops. Community policing is more than just talking to groups...its a policing philosphy. COPS was the program Clinton came up with to hire 100000 cops. It never happened as you can see it barely now funds 188 positions with it requirements. I posted it to show just how much money is there.
You might be thinking DARE and that done with. .
