Senate confirms Sen. Markwayne Mullin as DHS secretary

Source: ABC News

The Senate on Monday confirmed Sen. Markwayne Mullin to serve as Secretary of Homeland Security by a vote of 54-45.

Two Democrats -- Sens. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania and Martin Heinrich of New Mexico -- joined Republicans voting to confirm Mullin. Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky voted against the confirmation as he earlier said he would.

The vote came amid backlash over the immigration crackdown and deportations under DHS as well as the ongoing partial shutdown of the department.

Mullin, a first-term Republican senator and ardent supporter of President Donald Trump, will take over DHS with little homeland security experience. During his confirmation hearing last week, Mullin said that he will work hard to earn the respect of people at the department.

That ghoul is the one calling the shots. To be honest, he is the president as far as I am concerned, as he is the mastermind behind all of the racist, classist crap that has been going on.

Screw the doddering old pumpkin, that soulless zombie is the one we need to be getting rid of.

There is no good reason for any Democrat to vote for Markwayne Mullin or any Trump nominee! They do not represent or stand for any Democratic principles. What game are they playing. They have got to go! I know it wouldn't have made any difference once Fetterman betrayed us but it sure would be nice to believe and have faith that our party will hold the line.

One was an early, unapologetic tormentor of Al Franken in 2017, and the other has been generously described as "inconsistent at best."

I agree, we can certainly do better.
