Schumer says DHS funding talks 'constructive'

Source: msn/ABC News

12h

Sen. Chuck Schumer, the chamber's top Democrat, said Monday that the ongoing Department of Homeland Security funding negotiations with the White House and Republicans have been "constructive," but emphasized that "there’s considerably more work to be done."

"We're ready to meet with the White House today to keep talking," Schumer said after talks occurred all weekend. "In fact, we were going to meet this morning with [Border Czar] Tom Homan, but apparently the White House pulled that meeting because of Donald Trump's temper tantrum."

Schumer said Trump is trying to "sabotage negotiations" as lawmakers work to hammer out a deal to end the DHS partial shutdown, as lines grow at airports across the country and tens of thousands of workers, including Transportation Security Administration officers, go without pay.

Schumer said Trump “is the one standing in the way” of paying TSA workers after he directed Republicans over the weekend to not make a deal with Democrats on DHS funding without also passing his voting and gender-affirming care legislation, the SAVE America Act. "The SAVE Act does not have the votes to pass this chamber, and Democrats will fight it every step of the way," Schumer said on the Senate floor Monday.

In case you haven't noticed, they let us "protest" and fight just long enough to make it seem like we are making a difference. Once it starts hitting their bottom line (airlines and all associated travel biz) they call in the orders. Doesn't really matter which side, GOP or Democrat, they have paid for just enough representation to ensure the vote goes their way.

Not sure how to fix this with the amount of money flowing through campaigns. We need election donation reform in a big way, but, LOL if that will ever happen.

is missing with regard to Schumer. But, I am a little impressed that he has stood strong ..... so far. Maybe he will hold out until the Republicans cave. Maybe he's afraid of being primaried and losing his power, privilege, prestige and position. Maybe he learned to stand up.

It's always the Democrats' fault.

TSA are working without being paid, ICE is being paid without working. But Dems better not do anything to try to mitigate the never ending nightmare, like having NO CHOICE but to work with the evil bullshit MAGAt majority and the corrupt felon in charge, who repeatedly fucks up everything the Dems try to do!!

"Democrats" crapping on Democrats without knowing what the heck is going on is getting really, really old.

Which would you give in on? Masks and lack of identifying ID? Illegal search and seizure? Maybe we should allow racial profiling?

Where should we give in to "mitigate the never ending nightmare?" Where do you see room for negotiation?

Our past "mitigations" are what has allowed republicans to think they can demand we give in on the most basic rights we posses.

I am really praying that we don't "mitigate" anything.
