GAUDY BALLROOM
Design experts are putting Trumps vanity project on blast.
Annabella Rosciglione Published Mar. 29 2026 12:28PM EDT
Architects are warning that President Donald Trumps ballroom vanity project has disastrous design flaws.
The National Capital Planning Commission, which Trump has stacked with loyalists, is expected to take a final vote on the ballroom on April 2. But the president has already entirely demolished the East Wing to make way for the new event space.

(42,030 posts)We haven't seen - or been told - what's supposed to be built underground. Namely his "war room/bunker" where he plans to survive World War III. Let's just keep delaying this mess until he's finally out of there. I'm Ok with that.

(4 posts)I realize there are jobs here, few and probably when done won't get paid if tRump's history is at play here. But, then again he claims it's not our money--but it is.
So, stop building the thing.

(106,415 posts)Staircases are normally functional - for people to go up. Here, it's not just that the entrance to the building is not beyond the staircase, but that there's a pair of columns right at the top, disrupting the flow of the stairs. The columns aren't needed - that's what steel reinforcing is for - so they look more like the side of a Greek temple, rather than any entrance, and the staircase looks like a mistake that was made during construction.
It has a slight feel of the first Fawlty Towers episode - "The Builders".

(81,246 posts)Shocker. This ballroom is a metaphor for Trump's entire existence. Gaudy, ugly, elitist, overblown, destructive, pointless, without grace or harmony or authenticity.
It feels like he's building a gargantuan and tasteless mausoleum 🙏
