ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Sheridan School District in Arapahoe County is closed starting on Wednesday as teachers go on strike.

The district said all five schools will be shut down for the remainder of the week because they won't have enough staff to operate. Negotiations between the district and the union over expanding union members and reinstating long-expired teacher contracts have stalled.

Now, the union is taking action. But they'll be picketing in front of empty schools for the next few days.

"We just walked out of our classes. We're on strike," said Katie Biester, Sheridan High School social studies teacher and SOAR Academy, and president of Sheridan Education Association.
