first statewide like Governor or U.S. Senator, and later for a potential Presidential run.

It looked like he was being groomed for that path (he apparently wanted to or did run for governor but Spanberger was the favorite). And it seems the glamour and glory might have gone to his head too. He was apparently accused of sexual assault so it almost sounds like what happened with Swallwell, and in this case, his checkered past may have triggered the divorce issue (was apparently nasty), and that (along with the missed governor opportunity), was all it took to set him off.

Spanberger never competed with Fairfax for any office. Fairfax ran for Lt. Governor in 2017 and Spanberger first won her congressional seat in 2018. She was re-elected in 2020 and 2022. Fairfax made a run for the Democratic nomination for Governor in 2021 and managed to get a paltry 3.54% of the vote in the primary -- a result no doubt reflecting the fallout from the allegations made against him in 2019 of sexual assault. That marked the end of his political career.

It was not until 2023 that Spanberger announced her intention to seek the Democratic nomination for governor in 2025, concurrently announcing she would not run for reelection to Congress in 2024.

People like that don't just give up immediately. There are a pile who were in Congress over the years who were either defeated or forced to resign, yet would try try again later (e.g. Darryl Issa, Jessie Jackson Jr., Jeff Fortenberry, and Madison Cawthorn come to mind). The current occupant of the WH is the epitome of that mentality.

Don't discount that drive to be in some high office (which in his case, most likely drove him to snap).

Virginia Ex-Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax Kills Wife and Self, Police Say

Mr. Fairfax, a Democrat, served as lieutenant governor from 2018 to 2022.

Justin Fairfax, a former lieutenant governor of Virginia, and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, were found dead in a murder-suicide at their home in Annandale, Va., on Thursday morning, according to the county police.

The Fairfax County police chief said that Mr. Fairfax, 47, shot his wife and then himself.

Mr. Fairfax, a Democrat, served as the lieutenant governor from 2018 to 2022. He was accused of sexual assault by two women in 2019, prompting calls for his resignation. Mr. Fairfax denied the allegations and finished his term.

He then ran unsuccessfully for governor, losing in the primary to the former Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe in 2021.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

I know we'll never overturn the 2nd amendment. But people need to be educated about what gun ownership REALLY means.

thmore cIt doesn't make you safer, AT ALL. Sure, there are occasional cases where someone is able to shoot an armed intruder.

But there are more like this one.

There are more cases where a child gets their hands on a weapon and shoots another family member.

There are more cases where an unhappy, often bullied, teenager takes the firearm to school and kills classmates and teachers.

I saw a classmate at a high school reunion. I knew he owned a bar.

It was right after Texas passed it's first concealed carry law, which Ann Richards vetoed, even though she knew her veto would be overturned. She knew it would cost her her reelection in 1994, but she did it because it was the right thing to do.

So I asked my bar owning friend what he thought about the new law, which I was very much against. ahohave prHe said it meant "More dead people".

I said "Okay, I agree . Please explain."

He said, "I own a bar, which means we deal with a lot of cash. I was in the military. I know how to use firearms and I have them to protect my business."

"But unless someone has been in the military or law enforcement, they probably never shot another human being. They may not have even shot an animal. So if someone gets mugged, or gets their home or business broken into, and they pull a weapon on an armed assailant, the assailant will probably shoot first, BECAUSE THEY ARE EXPERIENCED."

"So more guns just means more dead people, and they aren't going to all be bad guys."

We didn't even talk about our 3 classmates that killed themselves with guns. I know people can unalive themselves in other ways, but nothing is as fast and sure as a gun. When it comes to suicide, simply owning a firearm can make the difference between a bad day (month, year) and a tragedy.

Just ask the Judd family. With Naomi's history of mental illness, she NEVER should have access to a gun. EVER! She died in Ashley's arms.

Court documents reveal mounting tension in Fairfax marriage before murder-suicide

Justin Fairfax, a former Virginia lieutenant governor, saw his political career fade after sexual assault allegations. He and his wife, Cerina, were divorcing.

Former Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax purchased a handgun in 2022, and had it with him during “some kind of adverse psychological event” that year, court documents show.

Fairfax killed his estranged wife Cerina Fairfax and himself on Thursday, days before an April 21 hearing in his divorce case and a court-ordered April 30 deadline to move out of their home in Annandale.

The 2022 events were detailed in a March 30 Fairfax County Circuit Court order on the custody of their two teenage children. ... According to the document, Justin Fairfax purchased a handgun with money intended for his children’s riding lessons. At some point later, he left home with the gun and was found by relatives in a nearby public park “after frantic searching.”

They were “unable to calm him down over the course of several hours,” and Justin’s brother had to call in a mental health professional, according to the document.
