SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) A gunman in Louisiana killed eight children in domestic-related shootings at different homes early Sunday, said Shreveport police chief Wayne Smith.
The victims ranged in age from one to about 14 years old, Smith said. A total of 10 were people shot.
The gunman later died after a chase with officers who fired at the suspect, Smith said.
The suspect stole a car while leaving the scene of the shootings and was followed by police, according to Smith.

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said he and his wife are "heartbroken over this horrific situation, and we're praying for everyone affected".
...
House Speaker Mike Johnson, who represents the Louisiana district where the shooting took place, has also commented on the "heartbreaking tragedy".
"We're holding the victims, their families and loved ones, and our Shreveport community close in our thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time," he said, adding that he was grateful for the quick response of local police.

(13,895 posts)People just keep dying from gun violence yet the all powerful gun lobby makes sure that guns are easy to purchase.
At this point I'm afraid that this country is so overly saturated with guns that even IF strong gun laws were passed (such as in Australia, for instance) it would take decades for the death rate to decline.
Greatest country in the world my ass.

(9,056 posts)US weapons have been the tools of cartel violence for years.
Every now and then, smugglers get busted leaving Tucson and heading for Mexico, a very short drive. There was a gun shop near a US Army Fort near the AZ/Mexico border busted for it just recently.
The shop that sold gun and an awful lot of ammo to the barely of age shooter in Uvalde, TX was already under investigation for selling massive amounts of guns and ammunition that was being taken across the border to cartels.
One might assume the same thing is happening all along the border.
Then there is the ridiculous ease by which unbalanced people can get access to weapons for personal mayhem use.

(698 posts)When one of our two biggest political parties
endorses and allows this slaughter of our children to continue with their full throated support of the gun lobby so that they may continue to finance their reelection campaigns.
I know we keep repeating ourselves on this subject here at DU but I just dont know what else to say anymore.
Thoughts and prayers just dont mean shit when you believe your right to own a firearm
trumps the very right of others to live.😔
