House Candidate Unveils Plan to Pay Americans Who Face AI Job Displacement

Source: Gizmodo

A prominent congressional candidate in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections just unveiled a striking new AI policy that is bound to ruffle some feathers in Silicon Valley.

New York assemblymember Alex Bores, a Democrat who is running for a House seat, unveiled his proposal for an AI Dividend program on Monday that would have the government send direct payments to Americans whose jobs are replaced by AI.

“The AI Dividend is about expanding freedom and choice. It gives Americans a direct stake in the wealth generated by AI—room to adapt, learn new skills, care for family, start something new, or simply keep up in an economy changing faster than government has prepared for,” Bores said in a memo announcing the policy proposal. “It’s a way to ensure that if AI transforms the economy, it strengthens the country, not just the balance sheets of a few companies.”

The funds would come from “a combination of AI-linked revenue mechanisms,” according to the memo. These mechanisms could include the federal government taking equity stakes in major AI firms or a complete tax code reform, which would include a “modest tax” on AI consumption that would be tied to the amount of tokens used.

The article points out that Bores is "the prime target of pro-AI and anti-regulation super PACs."

Today, I’m proud to announce the AI Dividend, my plan to prepare for the AI economy with direct payments to Americans funded by tax reform that simultaneously incentivizes hiring humans instead of AI. Read the full plan here: alexbores.nyc/ai-dividend

What if you post something the government doesn't like and then there is a clerical error and your UBI suddenly stops? Or they suspend it while you are under investigation for the next 12 months? Can you survive without money for 12 months?
Even I was sold on the idea of UBI until 2024 and the Republican revenge tour started.

Don't say that can't happen because Mango Mussolini has made billions of dollars evaporate with the stroke of a pen.

So, while it pains me to say it, UBI is no longer a good solution.

But ideally it would be not to do a mass Al implementation in the first place because we do not have the electrical grid or water resources to support it.

tack left, get UBI, tack right, withhold for political reasons
Tack left, seek universal health care, tack right, corporate welfare and no accountability
Tack left, regulate for safety, tack right, regulate for industry capture of government
Tack left, fight discrimination, tack right, pretend that the whites are the victims
Tack left, protect kids from the internet, tack right, keep names and files on free speech
Etc.

We could use a.i and robotics to provide the goods and give everyone the minimum food, clothing, and resources to live their lives....

A.i opens doors. It doesn't have to be bad for humans.

Silicon Valley is spending millions of dollars in the primary race against him in my CD. No way I’m voting for Bloomberg's boy Micah Lasher, who has yet to mention the Iran war, Gaza, Israel, or anything he’d actually do for us. He’s got millions and millions of Bloomberg’s money, but no plans I’ve heard of.

if you were laid off due to foreign competition. H qualified and the program paid for all of his graduate school expenses. He got a Masters of Public from Syracuse U and went on to a 30 year career with NYS. The program even paid for our move to Albany.
