Fetterman: Democrats should 'drop the TDS,' fund Trump ballroom after shooting
Source: The Hill
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is calling on fellow Democrats to support the construction of a new ballroom at the White House after a lone gunman tried to assassinate the president and senior administration officials at the White House Correspondents Association dinner Saturday.
Fetterman said the Washington Hilton, where Secret Service officers exchanged gunfire with a 31-year-old man armed with a shotgun and handgun, was not secure enough to host an event with the president, vice president and more than 2,000 guests.
We were there front and center. That venue wasnt built to accommodate an event with the line of succession for the U.S. government. After witnessing last night, drop the TDS and build the White House ballroom for events exactly like these, Fetterman posted Sunday on the social platform X, referring to Trump derangement syndrome, a term the president uses for his critics.
Fetterman attached his comment to an article by Mediaite Editor-in-Chief Joe DePaolo with the headline, I Was Inside the Washington Hilton Tonight. The Security was Downright Awful.

(3,578 posts)Residual effects from his stroke. Personality changes (like those experienced by dementia patients) are not uncommon. The 180 degree shift in his behavior and beliefs is consistent with having this type of residual.
I am NOT excusing him for this.
I am simply stating my personal belief based on my capacity and experience as a nurse. As such, it should in no way be taken as a diagnosis. But, the facts fit the hypothesis.

(42,093 posts)Where are they going to park up to 1,000 cars?
Assuming people arrive at the White House 2 per car, which isn't always the case. But still ... they'd have to steal land from somewhere else, probably the National Mall just to hold the participants' vehicles for 3 hours. It's just a completely bizarre plan.
Why don't they have their Correspondents' Dinner at the Kennedy Center, which is already unable to continue its schedule since Chump took over?
Somebody please knock some sense into these guys. Fetterman used to be pretty good at that, but not anymore.

My MAGA neighbor fell for the ballroom bs immediately. I said no one wants a ballroom. She said They will love it when it's built.
You will not be invited to the ballroom.
Trump will hire his buddies to do the work, likely from Idaho or some other place.

(3,827 posts)I was seriously excited about him when he was elected. I don't know if he changed or if he was being dishonest about his views, but party membership aside, he's not one of us.
I know we're not supposed to speak ill of Democrats here, but I'm not convinced he's a Democrat in the ways that matter.

(520 posts)Its not a White House event. If the ballroom existed it would be inappropriate to have the dinner there. A US senator not knowing that the WHCA is a private organization not associated with the federal government is sad. What is worse is that a US senator believes the press Corp works for the US government in support of Trump's grift. A traitor & a moron...

He looks really lost. I feel bad for him, his family, and his Pennsylvania constituents who are being cheated of the kind of representation that they reasonably expected.

(17,558 posts)No need for a gargantuan ballroom to be built above it. The new bunker won't even be that secure since everyone now knows where it is.
I'm sure one of Trump's billionaire buddies could easily buy out a local venue for several days like Bezos did for his wedding to support the WHCD. In fact, the WHC don't even have to invite the president or his cabinet members or they can appear by video from their hidey holes. Problem solved.

(42,093 posts)I'm a PA voter who supported him in 2022, and I even contributed to his campaign. We're disgusted with him now and I can say for a fact, he won't be given another term.
The best thing for Fetterman to do at this point would be to resign and allow Gov. Shapiro to choose a replacement in time for a re-election bid to unfold. If Fetterman decides at the last minute (like say, March '28) that he's not going to run again ... well we've got a real problem. But he can bow out early for health reasons, and everyone is happy.
The Dem voters are totally disgusted and the Repukes don't want him either, so he's done.

(42,093 posts)I'm thinking Malcolm Kenyatta will look into announcing next year. I'm sure he's considering it, because he had a good primary in 2022 but lost to Fetterman.
