Former attorney general Pam Bondi has agreed to testify before Congress next month about the Justice Departments handling of its release of files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, a spokesperson for the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said Wednesday.
The closed-door deposition, scheduled for May 29, will be the first time Bondi has appeared on Capitol Hill since President Donald Trump fired her as the nations top law enforcement official this month. The committee had subpoenaed Bondi to appear before members on April 14. After her ouster, Justice Department officials said Bondi would not show up and asked the committee chairman, Rep. James Comer (R-Kentucky), to withdraw that request.
The announcement that Bondi had agreed to reschedule her appearance follows threats from Democrats on the panel that they would move to find her in contempt if she did not come to Capitol Hill to testify. Jessica Collins, the committee spokeswoman, announced the rescheduled date on Wednesday moments after Democrats took steps to advance that vote.
Thats completely unnecessary, Collins said of the Democrats contempt warnings. Former attorney general Pam Bondi will appear on May 29.. Bondi did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

(16,783 posts)Statutory Criminal Contempt: If Congress refers a contempt case to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for prosecution under 2 U.S.C. § 192, this is a federal crime that the President can pardon.
Inherent/Civil Contempt: If Congress uses its own power to detain someone until they comply, or seeks a court order to hold someone until they comply, a pardon cannot free them because the purpose is to compel action, not punish a past crime.
Limitations: The President cannot pardon contempt related to impeachment.
Precedent: While Ex parte Grossman (1925) established that the President can pardon criminal contempt of a federal court, the application to contempt of Congress, particularly the rarely used inherent contempt, remains a topic of legal debate

(171,342 posts)It's not a "public" hearing, but a deposition -
However what you posted immediately came to my mind too (I was like - Isn't that around Memorial day?).
But then I remembered that all of the testimony so far has been "closed door".
