Meta's AI Bet, and the Evolution of Smart Glasses

Source: CNET

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg used the company's first-quarter earnings call on Wednesday to detail his plans to continue investing in AI, including integrating personal AI agents in Meta's popular smart glasses.

-snip-

"All of our glasses are designed to easily update to use our newest AI models and features," Zuckerberg said. "I'm also really excited to see the glasses evolve from being able to answer questions to being able to be a personal agent that's with you all day long, helping you remember things and achieve your goals beyond glasses."

-snip-

"I don't hear any other labs out there talking about how they're building an AI that's really good at shopping," Zuckerberg said. Shopping isn't the most important thing, he said, but it's about a difference in philosophy around the purpose of AI.

Meta is about "empowering people to do the things that matter in their lives, whether understanding social context or shopping or personal health things, or understanding what's going on around them visually…these are all elements of the personal super intelligence vision."

So Zuck's pervert glasses will also specialize in telling users what to buy while they creep other people out and spy on them? And they'll have a hallucinating chatbot helping them remember things (what could go wrong?) and also helping them "achieve their goals beyond glasses"?

Mentioning "goals beyond glasses" begs the question of whether Meta's glasses ARE the goal for some using them...which takes us right back to the pervert glasses nickname for them.

If young women wear the "smart" glasses they will be able to identify their abusers and attackers and the info would be archived online. Hopefully the glasses will record any questionable or possibly abusive behavior that can be used as evidence later in court. I believe the police would love to have this kind of info to ID the abusers and help prevent further attacks.

I know these glasses will be marketed to the males (for whatever reason), but really it's the young women who can use them for protection.

or how wealthy an old woman might be.

I don't see this as enhancing women's security.

I'm saying it could be turned the other way and use the facial recognition for catching the bad guys.

Anyone that records me with those things and does anything more than delete the file will be getting a bill, or a cease and desist order. I am an entertainer and my image is copyrighted. I know I am not alone in this, as there are several entertainers on this forum.

I sincerely hope that they will do the same thing... otherwise, one might as well give up trying to make a living.
