Trump mocks MAGA seniors to their faces
Source: Raw Story
12h
President Donald Trump bragged that he is "young" and "vibrant" compared to the residents of The Villages retirement community in Florida on Friday. "I don't happen to be a senior," said the 79-year-old president. "I'm much younger than you. I'm a much younger man than you. Look at you old guys. Wouldn't you like to be my age? Young, vital, vibrant."
Trump then went on to brag about his performance on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, or MoCA, which is a screening test for dementia in the elderly suggesting many of his supporters in attendance probably couldn't have done as well as he did, and taking a jab at former President Barack Obama.
"I took three of them," said Trump. "I'm the only president to take a cognitive test. I dont think Obama could pass it. Didn't he get into Harvard with a C average? The first question is a lion, a giraffe, a bear, and a shark. A lot of you wouldnt have been able to answer those questions."
Trump's conspiracy theories about Obama's academic records date back over a decade. In reality, Obama's biographer David Maraniss has said he had a respectably high 3.7 grade point average before getting into Harvard Law School.

(3,937 posts)like when he brags about the whole cognitive test thing, right? Seriously. I think he does know. He just knows that the press will report it and he can use it to deflect from real issues. It HAS to be that.
He CANT be that dumb.

..,that his sense of humor is always at others' expense. This is just another example of humor that is belittling of others and self aggrandizing.
Here's the clip:
Link to tweet
He does have a natural charisma (you don't become a TV host without it), and knows how to work a room (when he's not trying to stick to a teleprompter with text he can neither properly read nor understand).
The headline was clickbait (as raw story can do), he's not even "seriously" mocking them... he's joking with them and they're eating it up. (Honestly, I wouldn't even call this "news," late breaking or otherwise!)
niyad

(13,079 posts)... it doesn't really make sense to judge it, IMO. (i.e. where you said "He meant every word he said to those people" ) He knows he's the same age as they are. He even jokes about that at the end, saying that now there will be reports that he actually thinks he's younger than they are.
About the only thing I think he may have any self-awareness about is that he's getting old.
PatSeg
(53,378 posts)as if he's joking, but he usually is saying what he really means. Then when he is criticized about it later, he says, "I was just kidding. Can't you take a joke?" It is a common Trump tactic.

(53,378 posts)he keeps getting away with these lame tactics over and over again.
Narcissists are notorious for not having a real sense of humor, but they are very adept at using their version of humor to belittle others. People may think that narcissists are very self-secure, but in reality they have really low self-esteem which is why they have to put others down to make themselves feel superior.

Instead of manufacturing outrage at the source, why not just get a dictionary and look up the definitions of the word?
thesquanderer
(13,079 posts)You highlighted the adjective and adverb usage (usages 3 and 4), whereas the usage in the headline is a verb (usage 1).
BumRushDaShow
(171,609 posts)because what I highlighted is exactly how YOU were describing as his so-called "humor". But keep trying.
thesquanderer
(13,079 posts)further conversation of what the headline writer meant is pointless.
The meaning/intent of a word definitely CAN change depending on that usage. Feel free to keep digging. I'm moving on.
BumRushDaShow
(171,609 posts)but since you insisted that he was somehow trying to be (fake/insincere) "comedic" (adjective), then I gave you a whole plethora of definitions of "mock" including one that mentions that "fake", which is what "comedians" often are - they "role play" and every damn day, that ilk at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue does just that, because he is locked in on always "being on teevee".
But WHOOSH!

I dont say that rhetorically, I mean it quite literally: not once, not ever.
And that fact is particularly disturbing to the British sensibility for us, to lack humour is almost inhuman.
But with Trump, its a fact. He doesnt even seem to understand what a joke is his idea of a joke is a crass comment, an illiterate insult, a casual act of cruelty.
Trump is a troll. And like all trolls, he is never funny and he never laughs; he only crows or jeers.
And scarily, he doesnt just talk in crude, witless insults he actually thinks in them. His mind is a simple bot-like algorithm of petty prejudices and knee-jerk nastiness.
There is never any under-layer of irony, complexity, nuance or depth. Its all surface.
Some Americans might see this as refreshingly upfront.
Well, we dont. We see it as having no inner world, no soul.

I do believe he thinks he is funny, witty, smart, and all those good things that most people take for granted because they don't have to pretend, or force themselves to be liked, this buffoon spends all day trying to be liked without noticing what a fool he is, and that is his anger towards people.
Something his donors and brown-nosers do not seem to understand is that he hates them too. The best part is that he has to live knowing Melina despises him, that she is there only for the money and because Putin ordered her to seduce him, and to merry him, being who she is she gladly had sex with him, then told a tabloid "it was the best sex I have ever had", just to merry him, but then again, not that trump got a bargain with Melania either.

https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trumps-incessant-talk-about-cognitive-tests-isnt-reassuring-people-about-his-mental-fitness
On Friday, for example, Trump spoke to a supportive crowd in Florida, where he went on an extended riff, claiming that hes the only president to have taken a cognitive test, pretending its impressive that hes taken three and insisting that Barack Obama would fail such a test......
I am going to resist the temptation to comment on that quote and will instead note that around the same time, the president suggested some of his own supporters on hand for the event would struggle to answer the questions on the exams hes taken repeatedly for reasons the White House hasnt explained.
Trump suggests his own supporters couldnât pass a cognitive test.
— Acyn (@acyn.bsky.social) 2026-05-01T20:50:37.879Z
I took three of them. I'm the only president to take a cognitive test. I donât think Obama could pass it. The first question is a lion, a giraffe, a bear, and a shark. A lot of you wouldnât have been able to answer those questions.
If it seemed that Trump was feeling a bit defensive on the issue, its easy to understand why. It was just a few weeks ago when The New York Times published a striking report with an unsubtle headline: Trumps Erratic Behavior and Extreme Comments Revive Mental Health Debate. The same article highlighted a lawyer who used to work with Trump who described the president as a man who is clearly insane.
It also noted a recent comment from Stephanie Grisham, a former White House press secretary who worked for Trump in his first term. Grisham wrote online a week earlier that her former boss is clearly not well.....
But just as important is the degree to which Trumps fixation on the subject doesnt seem to be persuading anyone. As recently as November 2024, when he won a second term, a Pew Research Center poll found that 55% of Americans considered the Republican to be mentally sharp. That number has now dropped to 44%, with slides among Democrats, independents and even GOP voters.
If the president wants to reassure the public hes mentally fit to serve, hell have to try something other than obsessing over his alleged successes on dementia tests.
