Waltz says US pushing for UN resolution on Iranian actions in Strait of Hormuz

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Mike Waltz on Sunday reiterated his push for the international coalition’s security council to pass a resolution condemning the Iranian government’s restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Tuesday that the Trump administration, alongside Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar, drafted a UN Security Council Resolution to “defend freedom of navigation” in the waterway, through which the Islamic Republic has restricted shipping since the U.S. and Israel launched the war on Feb. 28.

“No country can do what Iran is doing in international waterways,” Waltz told host Martha Raddatz on ABC’s “This Week.”

“We cannot have a conflict between two countries, whether it’s over a border, resources, a nuclear program, where one side responds by holding the entire world’s economies hostage, by throwing sea mines out in international waterways,” he later said. “Can you imagine if a country did that in the Strait of Gibraltar or the [Strait] of Malacca?”

Except when we do it in the Gulf of Mexico or the Caribbean or Eastern Pacific, "double-tapping" fishing boats to enure they are completely obliterated.

3. I doubt that, most of Asia desperately needs that oil to flow out of the Gulf

... not to mention fertilizer and other items Etc
And allowing a country block an international waterway is a bad president to start.

And having a Chinese flag doesn't magically protect oil tankers from sea mines.
And the straights can't get swept for mines until Iran stops firing at vessels.

And the Chinese military is only effective very close to China, they have almost no ability to project worldwide like the US does.

12. Trump has created the blockade

He is looking for a UN resolution to blame it on Iran. I don't know why anyone would go along with this without an ironclad promise for the U.S. to end its blockade.

13. Actually Iran started with the closing of the straight except for their vessels

Or certain countries vessels they allowed or paid them the bribe they wanted.

And the middle of the Straits are in international waters so they have no basis for that

I don't think letting them export oil and no one else was a good idea so it's either blockaded for everybody or nobody.

So no, Iran did not start with the closing of the Strait.

Progressives need to stop repeating MAGA framing.

15. US and Iran fighting should have zero to do with international traffic in international waters

When Japan attacked the US didn't start trying to sink Canadian vessels.

Known nationalities of ships attacked, seized, or harassed by Iran include India, Barbados, Liberia, Panama, Greece, Marshall Islands, Malta, Singapore etc

isn't that the same NATO Trump called a "paper tiger"/demanded the organization pay their "fair share"/threatened withdrawal?.........and now Trump clown Waltz is begging the "no relevance" NATO to condemn the Iranian government's restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz when there were no restrictions prior to Trump's disastrous vanity war...Insanity rules!!

10. But Iran was saying that all shipping not bound for their attackers (US and Israel) could pass through.

Trump is the one blockading the strait by not letting any shipping from Iranian ports through (unless it's for China or Russia).
