Former FBI Director James Comey told CNN Thursday that he didnt regret his investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clintons personal emails even though his actions have been blamed by critics for contributing to Donald Trumps presidential win in 2016. Trumps Department of Justice is set to prosecute Comey in July for allegedly threatening the president by posting an Instagram photo of seashells spelling out 86 47.
The Arena host Kasie Hunt told Comey, I was the first to report on the network I worked for, the letter that you put out in 2016, late in the election cycle, that said you were reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton has made abundantly clear that she thinks you played a role in her 2016 loss..
You sort of said at the time that you didnt think that you had a choice, that she was on track to win the election, Hunt continued. I think the question Ive always had for you since since I covered that is, you know, why did you assume she was going to win?
That wasnt why I made the decision I made, Comey said. But Ive said in hindsight, I was living in an environment, as were you, where everyone, maybe even Donald Trump, assumed that Hillary Clinton was going to win. And so I asked myself, could that have had an impact on me? And the answer was, I dont know. But that was the world in which I lived. I made the decision I made because between two really bad options, it was the least bad.

(42,359 posts)Everyone forgets that JASON CHAFFETZ was the scum who leaked the memo to the press, and it immediately blew up to the unintended "October surprise" that the media was waiting for.
From Wikipedia:
The fact is that Comey never intended for his memo to be seen by anyone except a few House Committee Chairs. But Comey got all the blame for what Chaffetz did.

(12,783 posts)Would have hurt nothing. It would not have hurt pedo Trump. It would not have hurt Hillary. It would not have stopped the investigation. It would NOT have hurt his or the FBI's creditability.
But putting it out did hurt a lot of people including himself and the FBI. He and the FBI will always be seen as manipulative and untrustworthy. Even pedo Trump couldn't trust him. He is an untrustworthy manipulative fool. He brought this on himself.
Oh, look unexpected consequences.

(5,010 posts)would have been appropriate . garland said it a lot, so did holder.
the trump pattern is "'just announce you are opening an investigation and let me and the repub congress do the rest" from barr sworn testimony to j6 committee.
if ms clinton was operating illegally (and more importantly insecurely) i would expect an investigation and, if appropriate, charges. but
can any one seriously say they trust krasnov with our state secrets?
