SPRINGFIELD — Square One and its union have a tentative deal that, if ratified, could get 50 striking childcare workers back in their classrooms as soon as Friday.

Though she couldn’t give specifics, the compromise reached Wednesday could bring wages up significantly, said Danielle Kutner, union representative and vice president of United Auto Workers Local 2322.

She presented the deal Wednesday afternoon to membership, some of them on the picket line near Square One headquarters and childcare center on William Street. Members are voting, she said. She expects results late Thursday afternoon.

If the vote passes, workers could return to work as soon as Friday or Monday. The bargaining unit has over 50 members of teachers, staff, cooks and drivers, and has been on strike since June 2.
