They can move it anywhere they want. they can make it disappear (which they are). While the law states Congress has the power of the purse, once the money is given to the Executive branch for the them and the departments under them, the OMB (Russel Vought) have a huge piggy bank slush fund. Now Congress can get pissed, call them in for accountability that the money is being spent as they intended but once that cash gets under the Executive branches umbrella there isn't a whole lot anyone can do short of an independent DOJ investigating. That ain't gonna happen here. The slush fund is way way more than 1.776 billion folks. Its larger than the budget for the Marine Corps. And they now have it in their pocket.

(49,847 posts)Roughly half of global food production depends on nitrogen fertilizer, the only nutrient that crops require every growing season. The supply chain behind it begins with natural gas. The Haber-Bosch process extracts hydrogen from methane and combines it with nitrogen from the air to produce ammonia, the foundation of urea and most other nitrogen fertilizers.
A third of its global trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz, cut off overnight when it closed, sending urea prices surging from around $490 to over $700 per tonne.
Major exporters, including China and Russia, then restricted exports to protect their domestic supply, further tightening the market. Fertilizer plants across South Asia, which depend on imported Gulf natural gas as their feedstock, also began shutting down.

(8,586 posts)Another bailout for farmers who chose an administration that would very likely choke supply lines for their needed precursor materials?
Where are the Fox Business and CNBC capitalists inveighing against moral hazard? These farmers have three times made the same terrible business decisions, and now the rest of society has to bail them out?
