Private equity firm LongRange Capital is buying Pizza Hut, excluding the mainland China business, for about $1.5 billion, the company said Tuesday. The mainland China Pizza Hut will be purchased by Yum China Holdings Inc. for approximately $1.2 billion.
The sale follows a period of significant challenges for the brand, as outdated restaurant locations and intense competition in the fast-food sector led to a decline in sales.
Yum! Brands, which also owns KFC and Taco Bell, said in February that it was considering selling the chain as it announced the closure of 250 underperforming locations in the United States.
Pizza Hut was founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 1958, and was part of PepsiCo before being spun off into Yum! Brands in 1997.

Pizza Hut is not great but it is fairly consistent in whatever country you buy it so I can get familiar pizza(-like food product) which can be hard to find in Africa.
At one point I made a habit of trying Pizza Hut in every country I visited. I would see the variation on the menu - Chicken Tikka Masala in India or Seaweed and Squid in Japan.
Some common menu items are not found in different regions - anything pork related is rare to non-existent in the Middle East and Africa.
While it is not good pizza, it is a comfort food for me when I travel and occasionally at home.
I hope they do not disappear completely.

(17,960 posts)Back then, the food was decent. We used fresh ingredients and there were few complaints. There's only one left in my delivery area and it sucks. I quit ordering from them about a year ago. I don't order out much anymore, but now it's usually Domino's or Papa John's.
