Fetterman warns of rise of 'dirtbag left' amid victories by democratic socialists in New York
Source: The Hill
Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) is offering a warning about the rise of a dirtbag left within the Democratic Party, a reference to candidates on the left who have run and won primaries while identifying themselves as democratic socialists.
Two such candidates, community activist Darializa Avila Chevalier and New York State Assembly member Claire Valdez, emerged victorious on Tuesday night in New York Democratic House primaries. Both candidates are democratic socialists who were backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Chevalier defeated Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.), the chair of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, while Valdez beat progressive candidate and Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, who was backed by retiring Rep. Nydia Velázquez (D-N.Y.).
Yeah, no, I mean, these the kind of people they are trying to run out of office, they are just good, traditional kinds of Democrats you would expect in New York City now, Fetterman told Fox Newss Sean Hannity.

ICE has something on his wife. She's a naturalized citizen...maybe she forgot to put some information on her application!
Maybe Trump has threatened to have her denaturalized and send her back to her country of origin?

May we propose that brain damage tends to make people become conservative?

(2,133 posts)So many people tried to sound the alarm about him, but nobody listened. Conor Lamb would have been such a better choice for Pennsylvania and the party.
Fetterman is alienating the very Democrats who elected him while trying to court Republicans. Its no wonder people are talking about a 2028 primary challenge. Conor Lamb has been active on the ground lately, speaking to local committees and positioning himself as the reliable alternative we actually need.
The scariest part? If Fetterman gets pushed out in a primary, he might just run as an Independent. A three-way split in PA could hand the seat right to the GOP.

(17,625 posts)Lamb is the epitome of centrist Democrat. I believe when he was first elected to the House, his first vote was for someone other than Nancy Pelosi for Speaker.
More recently Lamb has moved slightly more to the left, but that is more for political expedience than any conviction. I guess I should give him credit for being more aware of which way the political winds are blowing than Fetterman is.
Jmo, but I think Fetterman's comments are as much rooted in his unconditional support for Israel which the Mamdani-endorsed primary winners oppose as much as anything.
QueerDuck
(2,133 posts)... so Conor Lambs approach is actually exactly what I look for in a candidate.
Second, lets be accurate about Lamb's record. He didn't vote against the party for Speaker; he kept a campaign promise to his purple district by voting for Joe Kennedy III to push for next-generation leadership. (And isn't that what so many online are calling for: "out with the old and in with the new"... or something like that? You'd think that this would be CELEBRATED among those who feel this way.) Over his career, his party unity score was 92%, and in a purple state like PA, I will happily accept that.
Finally, Fetterman's behavior goes way beyond his stance on Israel. He is actively using right-wing media platforms to blast his own party colleagues and alienate base voters. Disagreeing on policy is fine, but insulting the very coalition that elected you crosses a line. Lamb never did that.
Deminpenn
(17,625 posts)because he was a Dem and even as a moderate, establishment from a politically connected family, he was better than the best R. That's why he got my vote.
I can assure you the only reason his CD was "purple" was that it included part of Allegheny county. The largest part the district area-was and remains reliably red.
I also had a chance to meet Lamb when he was campaigning at a community event. He was polite and listened to my thoughts on some issues. He struck me as a nice guy, but too kumbya-ish. Which is what he turned out to be. He didn't get my Senator primary vote.
FTR, my Congressman is now the far better Chris Deluzio, someone not afraid to fight or speak out against the current wannabe dictator.
