An active-duty Air Force major was arrested in uniform on the steps of the U.S. Capitol this week after he stood before cameras and demanded that President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance be impeached and removed from office.
Jason Watson, a career officer, spoke at a news conference organized by the Removal Coalition, an activist group pushing Congress to impeach Trump. Rep. Al Green (D-TX), who has filed articles of impeachment against Trump more than once, escorted Watson to the House steps. When Green stepped away, Capitol Police ordered Watson to end the demonstration or face arrest. He refused, and officers took him in under a District statute covering crowding and obstructing.
Watson argued that Trump's military strikes on Iran and Venezuela were "an unconstitutional usurpation of Congress' authority and a violation of the War Powers Clause." He said those actions "resulted in the deaths of 13 service members and injuries of hundreds more," and told the crowd the president and vice president "must be impeached, convicted and removed." He also called the administration's immigration tactics unconstitutional. The Senate recently voted to rein in Trump's Iran war powers in a bipartisan rebuke.

(6,078 posts)soldiers follow orders, no matter how illegal. At this point, the number of soldiers who have already obeyed illegal orders to commit war crimes is pretty large, i would not expect many more after this guy.

(791 posts)I agree with the major, but he cannot do this in uniform

(2,455 posts)... because military isn't allowed to wear their uniform when protesting.
I call bullshit. He took an oath to defend against "enemies foreign and domestic."
That's the definition of this whole Shitler cabal and the decimation of the Constitution, rule of law, using the office to grift BILLIONS unchecked, ad nauseam.
This guy sacrificed his career to do his duty to us when countless more are simply following illegal orders. This dude is a hero--and I hope more follow suit.

(3,245 posts)to military authorities it might be valid, but I don't believe these police have any jurisdiction over the matter. It just looks like suppression of free speech to me.
I hope he has lawyers with enough guts to hang his defense on the "all enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC" phrase.

(3,245 posts)deployments or speaking out against what was clearly illegal orders, as there was no imminent threat from either country and no declaration of war from congress.
So the true answer is no, the reality is something different. I was careful when I spoke up and only did a few times such as when a young female petty officer was being verbally berated for not being a right-winger.

(451 posts)He was arrested for protesting on the capital grounds without a permit, the capitol police wouldn't care about the uniform violation. Unless the capitol police that arrested him were vets themselves, they probably wouldn't even know that there was a uniform violation.
I wore AF blue for 20 years and it is made crystal clear to us that we do not attend political events in uniform. The AF will deal with him over the uniform violation separately from the charges by the capitol police.
Not criticizing him for doing it this way, he did it on purpose and I stand in awe of the sacrifice he made to draw attention to this. His best possible (probably pie in the sky) outcome is that he will never get promoted from Maj to LtC. The middle of the road outcome is that he will be pushed to retire or resign his commission.
If I had to guess, I would say the aDerp Shitler regime will push for the heaviest penalty on both fronts. Hegseth will try to make an example of him to the rest of DoD and Blanche will bring the highest charge he can and push for the maximum possible sentence.
Again, an unbelievable display of courage and self sacrifice (at least in a non combat setting). He has my salute.
